TWO WEEKS LEFT - Deadline 10am Monday 24th August 2026

The Rainbow Project is seeking to recruit a dedicated and experienced Policy and Legal Coordinator, who will be responsible for developing and progressing The Rainbow Project’s policy and legal interventions to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ people in Northern Ireland, particularly around issues affecting trans and gender diverse communities. The successful applicant will also conduct policy and legal work on wider issues affecting all LGBTQIA+ communities.

This will include developing policy positions through community engagement and research; building strong relationships with politicians, policymakers and the media; developing and disseminating policy and legal information for trans and LGBTQIA+ communities and allies, both to build support for Rainbow’s work and provide accurate information for our communities.

The Rainbow Project Statement on the adoption of the EHRC's new Code of Practice for England, Scotland and Wales.

We have watched with concern the development of the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC’s) ‘Code of Practice’ for businesses and organisations. We know many trans people will be fearful as it comes into effect today in GB.

For clarity, the EHRC does not have remit in Northern Ireland, and as such the Code of Practice does not apply here. We are governed by different laws, have certain additional human rights protections, and have a standalone Equality Commission for NI.

Nonetheless, we know that the direction of travel the UK is going in is extremely concerning, particularly for trans and gender diverse communities at the sharp end of this rights regression. We see you, we hear you, and we stand with you.

In the coming months, the Equality Commission for NI is seeking a High Court ruling on the application of the ‘For Women Scotland’ judgment. We are intervening in this judicial review to ensure that trans people’s needs and experiences are represented.

As of today, in Northern Ireland, there are no changes to your rights as trans people, nor to the obligations of businesses, organisations and service providers, stemming from this new Code of Practice.

We stand in solidarity with our colleagues in the LGBTQIA+ and trans sector in Great Britain, as well as trans communities across the UK, for whom the adoption of the Code of Practice amounts to a significant regression in basic rights to engage in public life.

Amazing support throughout Causeway Pride today! ☀️🌈

The sun was shining, the performances were unreal, and the speeches were powerful. It was brilliant to see so many people coming together to celebrate, support and stand with the LGBTQIA+ community.
