This week is Volunteers’ Week and we’d like to say a huge thank you to all of our fantastic Marie Curie volunteers who support our work across Northern Ireland ⭐️

We hosted some of our volunteers at the hospice yesterday for a fun afternoon with a quiz and BBQ, and to hear from some of our staff about the impact of their efforts.

We’re so lucky to have so many volunteers who are passionate about what we do at Marie Curie - we couldn’t do what we do without you! 🌼

Thank you once again to all of our volunteers, you are incredible! 💛

It was so lovely to welcome some of the stars of Blue Lights to the Marie Curie Hospice in Belfast last week as filming wrapped on the fourth season of the critically acclaimed police drama 🤩

Actors Richard Dormer, Sîan Brooke, Katherine Devlin, and Joanne Crawford as well as series co-creator Declan Lawn and executive producer Stephen Wright, spent time speaking with patients and staff at the hospice, hearing about the services provided at the hospice and how the series has been a firm favourite among patients 💛

It was a real treat for our patients and staff to meet with the Blue Lights team💛

You can read more about the visit online in the Belfast Telegraph.

Last week, our Legacy Fundraiser, Deborah hosted a special event at Titanic Distillers, bringing supporters together to learn more about the lasting impact of Gifts in Wills 💛

Guests enjoyed talks about the work Marie Curie delivers across Northern Ireland - from our vital nursing and hospice services to the work of our fundraising team ⭐

We were also treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the distillery, discovering the rich history of the building and the story of whiskey-making in Northern Ireland 🤩

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to the team at Titanic Distillers for all their help at the event!

If you’re interested in leaving a gift to Marie Curie or our Free Will Service, get in touch with Deborah via email [email protected]

This International Nurses Day, we want to give a special shout out to all our amazing nurses and healthcare assistants who work for Marie Curie 💛

You may have spotted two of our nurses in the Belfast Telegraph and Sunday Life this week – married couple, Paul and Jennifer, who are celebrating a combined 100 years of nursing service, and shared why they love their jobs.

Jennifer said: “It might sound strange to some people, but I really love my work. No one wants to die in pain and being able to change that for someone makes an enormous difference to that person and their family."

Paul added: “If you put my personality traits into a job-matching computer, it would throw out nurse every time. I was just made for it,”

“None of the people I’ve cared for have said they wish they’d spent more time at work. It’s always about spending as much time as possible with family and the people you love. This job reminds you every day of what really matters.”

⭐You can read more about Paul and Jennifer's story in this week's Sunday Life and in the Belfast Telegraph.

🌼Thank you to all the nurses and healthcare assistants on the Marie Curie team 🌼

And a massive congratulations to all of our London Marathon runners, including Kerry and Deborah (pictured 📸), who took on the challenge last Sunday – even running dressed as a daffodil 🌼 – and were interviewed on the BBC 👏🎉

Our Marie Curie Research Voices Group brings together volunteers who help ensure people living with a life‑limiting illness, those who care for them, and those who are bereaved have a real say in our research - influencing service delivery and policy to make a meaningful difference.🌼

Barbara is one of our volunteer members in Belfast. She shared why being involved matters to her:

“I received support from Marie Curie when a relative was at the end of their life. Being part of the Research Voices Group is my way of giving back for the support I received. Feeding back my experiences through this type of research will help ensure that more people can get the access to the right care & support when they need."

Barbara also encourages others to join:

“Even if you only have a little time, I’d encourage anyone to get involved and support the group in any way they can.”

The groups meet every two months, and as Barbara says, you can give as much or as little time as you’re able.

We created the Research Voices Group in 2013 to engage with those living with or caring for someone with terminal illness.

🏃Marathon Day is finally here! 🏃‍♀️

Good luck to the incredible runners taking part in the TCS London Marathon - particularly our 31 runners from NI 💛

This includes 5 friends from Downpatrick, Clair, Julie, Kathryn, Molly and Penny who are taking on this challenge together.

Penny said ‘Running for Marie Curie has given every step a deeper meaning. Knowing that our efforts are helping provide care and support to people living with terminal illness and their families has been a constant source of motivation. 👊

Together, we are incredibly proud to have raised over £20,000 for this amazing cause. It’s a reflection not just of our commitment, but of the generosity and support from everyone in our community and beyond who have backed us along the way.’ 💛

As the Official Charity of the Year, we couldn’t be prouder of everyone taking part and fundraising for Marie Curie 🌼. Every mile you run and every pound you raise helps us provide vital care and support for people in our hospice and in their own homes, right now. Thank you for showing up with courage, determination, and heart. Go make it count! ⭐

We would love it if you could share some good luck messages to our runners in the comments below 👇💛
