🔦 SENSory SPACE SPOTLIGHT 🔦

Yesterday at SENSory Space, our young people got involved in a range of activities, including clay making, penalty shootouts, bowling and Jenga! 🎨⚽🎳

It’s been great to see our young people growing in confidence, becoming more comfortable with staff and building connections through playing alongside other members. 🥰

One of the most important parts of our sensory hour is recognising that every young person has different needs, abilities and ways of understanding the world around them.

Yesterday, we saw a lovely example of understanding and acceptance. Sometimes, artwork or activities can be accidentally knocked or interrupted, and not every young person understands the impact of this. While some members understandably felt a little frustrated, they showed patience and understanding towards others.

These moments are just as important as the activities themselves, helping our young people develop empathy, understanding and acceptance of one another. 💚

At GYC, we’re proud to provide a space where every young person can feel welcome, supported and included, on their own terms. 🌈

Another great session with our P7’s! 💛

🌟 Build Up Skill Up with Harmony 🌟

Nicole was back in Harmony Primary School today with our P7s for another session of Build Up Skill Up!

Today, we took a closer look at the responsibilities the P7s have, exploring the different roles they can apply for, including Forest Ranger, Peer Mentor and Eco Monitor. 🌳🤝♻️

The young people explored what their roles involve, what they think about their responsibilities, how they feel about them and what actions they can take. Their worksheets were fantastic, with lots of creativity and artistic flair! 🎨👏

We then finished off with some fun games, including Heads Down, Thumbs Up and a game of Guess Who! 🎲

Another great session of building confidence, exploring responsibility and developing skills! 💚

🎃 Wednesdays at GYC 🎃

Our juniors had a great session tonight, getting involved in lantern making, Lego, cookies, ghost-making crafts and football! 👻🏮⚽

Our senior girls got busy in the kitchen, making some buns 🧁, while our senior boys got stuck into a game of Mafia! 🕵️

SENIOR DROP-IN ANNOUNCEMENT

Please be advised that football will no longer be facilitated during senior drop-in sessions until further notice.

This decision has been made following ongoing issues with a lack of respect from some members shown towards staff. As Glencairn Youth Club operates a multi-purpose hall, the use of the space for football has also created a number of practical challenges.

We want GYC to remain a welcoming space where all young people can access facilities, take part in activities and enjoy their time in the club. However, this relies on everyone treating staff, other members and the space itself with respect.

Respect towards staff is a basic expectation and is essential for the club to operate effectively.

Football is therefore postponed during senior drop-ins until further notice. We appreciate not all young people have a lack of respect but unfortunately actions of a few ruin it for everyone else.

All senior members must have a valid registration form on file to attend sessions. Any member without a valid registration form will be asked to leave the centre.

A great night where our young people got to know each other more, looking forward to the next load of weeks!

Our juniors had a busy night getting involved in penalty football, Halloween crafts, musical statues and board games.

Our seniors also got involved in a game of football.

🎉 Fridays at GYC! 🎉

Over 50 young people through our doors tonight, which was fantastic to see! 🙌💚

Our juniors got stuck into a busy night of messy play, bracelet making, a penalty competition, games and, of course, creating posters all about respecting our park 🌳🎨

Our senior girls tried their hand at making the viral dot cakes 🍰, which went down a treat, while our senior boys enjoyed a competitive game of football ⚽

Both age groups also enjoyed some well-deserved toast and chicken, kindly donated by LifeHubNI. Thank you for your continued support! 💚

It was brilliant to see so many new faces joining us across both junior and senior club. 💛
