Folks, don't forget our volunteer days every Tuesday and Thursdays from 10am. Looking forward to a bumper harvest this year but sometimes it's nice just to sit, relax, look at the flowers and watch others do a bit of work like the Victims And Survivors Trust in the pics. Jobs for all physical abilities and you will learn new skills, just call in.

Our highly popular Trainee Ranger Scheme returns for another year!

Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund Northern Ireland, Breedon Group plc and Action Renewables, the highly successful Trainee Ranger Scheme will return for another year as part of our new project ‘Young, Wild and Well’.

The Scheme will be slightly different this year in that we are only accepting applications from young people aged 18-30 who are facing mental and physical health struggles, special educational needs and disabilities or other forms of discrimination or disadvantage. More information and application forms can be found on our website:
https://belfasthills.org/newsroom/traineerangerscheme/

The deadline to apply is Tuesday 1st September 2026 at 5pm.

‘Young, Wild and Well’ is a new project which will build on the legacy of Wild Youth. The joint project between the Belfast Hills Partnership and Ulster Wildlife will continue to support young people’s mental and physical health in the outdoors.

Sadly it's the end of APEX Housing Residents 12-week programme at Colin Allotments and Healthy Living Centre. Over the last few months, participants learnt how to make fresh bread with a variety of homemade soups, sausage rolls, kefir, beeswax-based healing balm. They've also made jam, chutney, wreaths from materials harvested locally, filled spring and summer hanging baskets using all the tricks of the trade and learnt how to grow and care for a wide selection of vegetables. Thankfully some of the participants will be joining in on our volunteer days, and we're planning another session later in the year.

Lovely visit by children and staff of ST Kieran's Nursery. The children got to see all the wildlife in and around the Colin Allotments and learnt about nature. A fantastic example on how everyone working together can make a difference. Over the past few weeks, the children of ST Kieran's Nursery have been learning how to sow and grow vegetable seeds and care for plants thanks to Horticultural and Nutrition Tutor Gemma. They have planted up their new raised beds donated by Half Moon Lake Men's Shed, and the training has been sponsored by Colin Neighbourhood Partnership and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund Northern Ireland . It's never too early to learn how to grow some of your own food.
