Traffic & Public Realm Works Update

We’ve received the following update from the Belfast Transport Hub regarding upcoming public realm works in the Sandy Row area.

Tuesday 1 September – from 11.00pm for approximately 4 hours

There will be a one-way southbound closure on Durham Street, from Grosvenor Road to Glengall Street, while traffic light sensors are installed in the footpath.

Diversion routes and traffic management will be in place.

Wednesday 2 September – 9.30am to 4.30pm

Temporary traffic light phasing and traffic management will be in place at the Hope Street / Sandy Row / Linfield Road / Boyne Bridge Place junction.

This is to allow for the switch-over of the new traffic lights at the junction.

Drivers and pedestrians are advised to allow a little extra time when travelling through the area.

The Belfast Transport Hub team has apologised in advance for any inconvenience caused.

What a great first week of our Fairy Garden art workshops! 🎨✨

We’ve had a brilliant start with lots of creativity, imagination and fantastic ideas coming from everyone who joined us this week.
It’s been lovely seeing children, young people and adults getting involved, sharing their ideas and starting to create pieces that will help bring the FairyThorn Garden in Sandy Row to life. 💚

A massive thank you to everyone who came along, got stuck in and helped make the first week such a success. We can’t wait to see all the ideas come together over the next few sessions also a huge thanks to Ben and Dervla from Flax Art Studios for all their help.

You’ve made everyone feel so welcome and helped bring so many brilliant ideas to life.
This is all about creating something special with the community, for the community. 🌸🍄🧚

Keep an eye on our page for more photos and updates.

Thank you to the Housing executive for funding this project.

Traffic Update

Great Victoria Street

As part of the ongoing public realm works around Belfast Grand Central Station, works will take place on Great Victoria Street on Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 August, from 9am–4pm each day.

The works will involve the construction of two new traffic islands near the eastern end of Glengall Street.

To allow the work to be carried out safely:

• One northbound lane will be closed from the Northern Mall entrance to the front of the Fitzwilliam Hotel. Traffic will return to two lanes before the Howard Street / Great Victoria Street / Grosvenor Road junction.

• The southbound lane will be slightly narrowed outside the Grand Opera House to provide a safe working area.

Motorists should allow a little extra time when travelling through the area while the works are underway.

Please see the attached traffic management plan for further details.
