ITS AIM is to introduce young people to dance and the creative arts, and to advocate dance as a tool for facilitating personal and social development. ITS VISION is to advance dance as an art form, build community connections and foster tolerance and resp

ect. With performance as an integral part of the process, DU Dance (NI) provides access to innovative contemporary dance workshops and projects across communities, which may often have limited or no dance provision, challenging traditional views of the relevance and value of dance. Our Sutemos dance group is for young people between the ages of 12 – 18 years living in or around Dungannon.

The sessions include learning different dance styles, creating dances and working towards performances. These range from community based celebrations to taking to the stage at our annual UNANIMOUS youth dance event at The MAC Theatre, Belfast.

Autumn term starts on Wednesday 9th September 2026 and sessions run from 7:00 – 8:30pm.

The group meet at Dungannon Youth Resource Centre, 2 Savings Street, Dungannon BT70 1DT and is led by dance artist Christine O’Neill.

It's just £10 registration fee and £1 subs per session .

No experience is necessary and new members are always made to feel really welcome!

There is a group for younger boys aged 7 – 11 years and one for older boys aged 12 – 18 years.

Our SUTEMINIS dance sessions are for anyone aged 7 – 11 years living in or near Dungannon.

The Autumn term starts on Wednesday 9th September 2026 at Hill of The O Neill & Ranfurly House and sessions run from 5:30pm to 6:30pm every Wednesday.

No experience is necessary and new members are always welcome!

There is only a £10 registration fee and £1 subs per session.

Alternative Energies - our Intergenerational Dance Project - is back for a new series of weekly workshops from Wednesday 9th September in Ballycastle.

These sessions bring together young people aged 15-18 years with elders 65+ to create dances together to perform. It is also a really welcoming and social group, led by Philip Johnston.

Workshops take place on a Wednesday from 4pm to 5:30pm in the Main Hall at Sheskburn Recreation Centre, 7 Mary St, Ballycastle BT54 6QH

We’re pleased to share we have been awarded £1,000 through Belfast City Council’s European City of Sport 2026 programme.

This funding will contribute to our Belfast Boys autumn programme at The MAC, supporting weekly physical activity sessions and three guest-led workshops that will bring new movement practices and experiences into the space. More on this to follow!

A sincere thank you to Belfast City Council European City of Sport funding for supporting this programme and helping us create more opportunities for boys and young men to move, connect and build confidence.

Last week, our Summer Dance Session was in full flow at the Hill of The O Neill & Ranfurly House in Dungannon.

A whole bunch of enthusiastic dancers aged 7 to 11 got together to move whilst exploring dance movements inspired by Latin, African and Street styles. There was a lively visit from Circusful and daily craft and game activities.

Parents felt the week was great for mental health, and enabled their children to integrate with others, have fun and build confidence. What a great way to spend time with new friends during the summer holidays!

We’re delighted to share DU Dance (NI) has been awarded funding through the Dormant Assets NI programme, delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund.

Our Artistic Director, Jack Philp said: “This support comes at an exciting moment for the organisation as we look towards our 20th anniversary year in 2027. The support will strengthen DU Dance (NI) for the future through investment in fundraising, a new website and digital infrastructure, and governance, ensuring we continue to grow our work with artists, young people and communities across Northern Ireland and beyond.

A heartfelt thank you to the Dormant Assets For All fund for investing in the long-term future of DU Dance (NI). We’re incredibly grateful for the support and excited for what lies ahead.”

There are few situations that bring people with different interests and generations together but our intergenerational group - Alternative Energies - does just that.

Led by Philip Johnston and Michaela Elliott and based in Ballycastle, the group was delighted to perform as part of the Lir Arts Festival on Wednesday 1st July at the Sheksburn Recreational Centre.

They were joined by the Ariffe Dancers from Glenariffe and the Glens & Dalraida U3A choir and performed a piece titled ‘Mango Pond’ to music sung by the choir called Both Sides Now.

With musical performances by Philip Glass, Louis Armstrong and Fergus McCreadie and a poetry reading, it was a truly special evening. As one audience member said: "It was great to see all generations joining together to sing and dance."

The event was really well attended with an audience of 60 who were also welcomed onto the stage at the end to dance with the performers. Afterwards everyone had stories to share and connected further over refreshments. This celebration of energy, dance, creativity and fun is what Alternative Energies is all about.
