🏞 Planning camps, organising nights away or interested in finding out more about Nights Away PERMITS? This evening is for you! 🌄

🔴 All leaders are invited.. whether you already hold a PERMIT, need a renewal, are thinking about applying for one, or simply want to build your knowledge, confidence & skills, this is a great opportunity to ask questions, share experiences and learn together!

🔵 We’ll cover key updates, safety & compliance requirements, practical advice & guidance, and how we can support YOU in providing safe, exciting and memorable nights away for our young people!

🟢 Nights away are a fantastic part of the Scouting adventure, creating opportunities for young people to explore, achieve, share & transform.. develop independence, build friendships, and make memories that last a lifetime!

⚜️ By working together and supporting our volunteers, we can all help make these experiences happen! The more informed and confident our volunteers are, the better equipped we are to deliver great Scouting experiences.

⚜️ District leadership Drop-in Session from 7:00pm - get support for your membership tasks and help for joining, learning & training needs.

⚜️ Sectional breakouts: come together with other Squirrel, Beaver, Cub, Scout & Explorer leaders and be part of it!

🔴 All District explorers / young leaders are invited to attend to meet the District Youth Lead, District 14-24 Lead and contribute to YOUR District ESU programme for the year ahead in the Explorer Scout breakout session.

✨🛰️ It’s World Space Week! Wrap up warm and explore the night sky! Earn your Space Activity Badge with Scouts!

🌌🔭 October brings crisp, chilly nights, longer hours of darkness, and some of the most spectacular sights of the year! From meteor showers to dazzling planets, October is a month where the night sky really comes alive!

🪐 Planet Saturn is the star of the night sky as it reaches 'opposition' TODAY, Sunday 4th October! Meaning it is at its closest, brightest, and most visible all night long with its famous rings! Did you know they are made up of ice & rock!?

☄️ The Draconid Meteor Shower - arrives with the Draconids peaking on the night of Thursday 8th October! Unlike most showers, the Draconids are best viewed in the evening, just after nightfall

☄️ The Orionid Meteor Shower - arriving later this month with the Orionids peaking around Wednesday 21st October! These meteors come from Halley’s Comet’s dust trail and can produce up to 20 meteors per hour under dark skies! Best viewed in the early hours before dawn - they streak from the constellation Orion, rising in the EAST during the wee small hours!

🌕 The Hunter’s Moon is
October’s FULL moon, reaching its peak on Monday 26th October! Like the Harvest Moon, it rises soon after sunset for several nights in a row, casting a bright glow over autumn evenings. Look for out for its warm orange hue near the horizon - perfect for atmospheric photos!

🔭 October is a fantastic month for even more planet watching too! With Jupiter, Mars & Venus also on show!

⚜️ RLVs, DLVs, trainers & others will be on hand to help with all things Scouting. Whether it’s welcome conversations, disclosure checks, support for new leaders, accessing training, online Membership system, activity permits, wood badge validation or support with events - we’re here to help!

🗣 DID YOU KNOW? 🐿⚜️

🐿 Squirrels also started in Northern Ireland! Children can join Scouts from the age of 4 years! & Squirrels didn’t always wear red!

📍 Local Roots: The Northern Ireland Squirrel Association operated independently from the early 1990s as a feeder section to Beaver Scouts, before the Scout Association officially adopted Squirrels across the UK in late 2021 for boys & girls aged just 4-5 years old!

🎉 Squirrel Scouts are celebrating 5 years since officially becoming part of The Scout Association (& going for over 30 years in Northern Ireland by the way!) It was the first new section added to UK Scouting in over 35 years following the introduction of Beavers in 1986

⚜️ When Squirrel Scouts first started in Northern Ireland their uniform was a dark blue jumper. Today our smallest adventurers proudly wear their bright red sweatshirts in honour of the red squirrels on Brownsea Island! 🔴

🐿 One of the most recognisable traditions of Squirrel Scouting is the 'Drey' - a safe & welcoming place where our youngest little discoverers meet to discover, play together & earn badges! - Through activities such as games, crafts, days out, and exploring new adventures!

🌍 One of the many great things about Scouts - is that it starts with small steps and can shape a lifetime! Here’s to many more years of fun, friendship, and fantastic Squirrel stories!

🔴 Everyone Achieves Scouting Together and YOU can join the fun & friendship in Squirrels or any of the other age-appropriate sections in East Belfast today!
