How is Congo Initiative UK transforming communities in Eastern Congo?

It starts with education, but it doesnโ€™t end there. Through UCBC, ABC and La Charitรฉ Primary School, students are formed not only academically, but as leaders with character and a heart to serve their communities.

That same vision continues beyond the classroom. Through initiatives like the Nyota Leadership Programme, young women are being equipped with confidence, leadership skills and entrepreneurial capacity, stepping into roles that reshape families and communities for the better.

And surrounding it all is a deeper commitment to holistic community development. Congo Initiative UK walks alongside communities to strengthen education, health, economic opportunity and spiritual life together. Itโ€™s a long-term approach to transformation that seeks to restore dignity and build resilience from the ground up.

At our partner university UCBC, weโ€™re always excited to see our graduates come back as educators, mentors and leaders who help shape the next generation.

Meet Mapamboli Ebuta Benie, who studied at the UCBC from 2017 to 2021 in Electromechanical Engineering. Today, heโ€™s back as both a graduate student and a lecturer in the same field where his journey began.

For him, UCBC was more than a university. It was a community that shaped his character, strengthened his values and prepared him for life beyond the classroom. He credits UCBCโ€™s commitment to academic discipline, community service and spiritual life as solid pillars in his journey.

We are excited to follow Mapamboli as he continues to change lives. UCBC will always be your family.

Life at our partner, Universitรฉ Chrรฉtienne Bilingue du Congo is about more than earning a degree. As a bilingual university in Eastern Congo, UCBC equips students to lead and communicate in both French and English, opening doors to opportunities both locally and internationally.

UCBCโ€™s role is to set students up for success. We love seeing them take what theyโ€™ve learned at university back into their communities to help bring positive change across Congo. And that transformation begins right here on campus.

Our student body is diverse, representing many regions and backgrounds. What youโ€™ll find on campus is a culture of open-mindedness, connection and faith-inspired transformation.

Our Chief Executive-David McAllister MBE, had the pleasure of speaking with a former UCBC graduate last year and they had a conversation concerning the need for faith based entrepreneurs.
Faith based, because we believe that much of Congoโ€™s problem is due to endemic corruption.

Serge is a testament to how Congo Initiative UK is working and the powerful partnership with UCBC.
