Friday brought NIBGA members together to Ashfield Golf Course in Newry to remember a very special past member Tommy Reidy. Some of Tommy’s former guides joined us in a great day to celebrate Tommy’s contribution to NIGBA in the Tommy Reidy Memorial Event. Tommy’s wife, Maria, came to present the trophy to the winner of the competition , Kate Daily. Congratulations to Kate for a well deserved win. A lovely day was had by everyone playing some great golf, sharing stories of Tommy and enjoying a beautiful meal at Ashfield GC. Thank you to everyone involved in the special day.

Some photos from Friday’s golf event at Temple Golf Club which was run by Heather and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes, entered teams, helped out on the day and supported in any way. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed the day and the event managed to raise £2,850 towards next year’s British Blind Open which is being held in Northern Ireland. Special thanks to Heather who worked tirelessly to make the event such a success

Congratulations to Kate and Alice, Jan and David and Caryn and Mark who were flying the flag for NIBGA at the ISPS Handa Spanish Open last week. Kate started off with a bang as overall winner of the practice day. Kate and Jan then went on to finish the open in joint 2nd in the ladies stroke competition and joint 5th in the field of men and women. Caryn finished 4th in the stableford competition. All had a fantastic time in sunny Spain and NIBGA are very proud to be represented by these great players and guides.

Did you know? 👀🏌️‍♂️

Blind golf is played to exactly the same Rules of Golf as sighted golf — with just one small adaptation.

The only difference is that blind golfers are allowed to ground their club in a bunker.

Everything else is the same:
⛳ Scoring
⛳ Etiquette
⛳ Competition rules

It’s a powerful reminder that blind golf isn’t a different game — it’s the same game, built on skill, teamwork and trust between golfer and guide.

Different sight. Same rules. Same love for the game. 💙
