Last week 10-13 August, four of our members travelled to Stockholm to participate in the ISPS Handa Scandinavian Blind Open. Kate Daly and Erill Maney took part in the Medal event while Caryn Young and Tony McEvoy opted for the Stableford competition. After a practice day and thirty-six holes of competition on a beautiful parkland course in Sollentuna twenty minutes outside Sweden’s capital, Erill secured 1st place in the B3 category and Tony finished runner-up in the Stableford match, not to be outdone, Caryn was awarded a prize for a “Two” at the water guarded 13th, eight inches away from a “hole in one” and an empty purse.
Most of those had an opportunity after or before the tournament to enjoy the City, it’s history, food and it’s warm and friendly residents.
Big shout out to the guides, Jackie Duffy, Alan Chambers, Mark Young and Victor Beggs and to the team’s mascot, Shelley McEvoy.

Ireland came agonisingly close as they finished second after a countback in the European Nations Cup for Golfers with Disability ☘️🥈

The Irish were eighth in the European Team Championship for Golfers with Disability, also in Golf Club Genova Sant'Anna.

A few photos also of the golf course in Italy where the players are performing in sweltering conditions. Well done to Team Ireland who are top of the leaderboard by one point today .

Fantastic day from Golf Ireland in Italy

Conal Flynn and Catherine Daly led the charge on Day 2 of the European Nation’s Cup for Golfers with Disability, as Ireland took control at the top of the standings with 150 points overall ☘️

Also taking place at Golf Club Genova Sant’Anna in Italy, Ireland are seventh in the European Team Championship for Golfers with Disability.

Yet another congratulations this week to Kate Daly. Kate has been chosen to represent Ireland in the European Nations Cup. This is a team competition and is for golfers with a disability. The competition is being held in Golf Club Genova Sant'Anna, Italy. We hope to be able to keep you updated on Ireland and Kate’s progress throughout the week. The teams were announced by Golf Ireland earlier this month

🎉🏌️‍♀️What an amazing day with fantastic weather for Captain Margaret’s Prize!🎉🏌️‍♀️

A huge congratulations to our winner Vice Captain Siobhan Carey.
Well done to everyone who took part and helped make it such an enjoyable and memorable occasion for Captain Margaret.

A very big congratulations to Jan Dinsdale and her guide David who came 2nd place in the Ladies Overall Western Canadian Blind Golf Championships. Jan said “ After three weeks of thunderstorms and torrential rain the course looked unusually green for this time of year”. The course has its own challenges as can be seen in a photo of the large sandy patches throughout the course “If your ball lands here, it's part of the course - you play it as it lies”, Jan said.
Looks like the conditions didn’t stop Jan. Congratulations on a great result ⛳️🏌️‍♀️

Congratulations to Kate/Jackie and Bryan/Nigel on an excellent British Open. Kate came in second overall net in the ladies Medal competition which was phenomenal and Bryan came in inside the top 12. This was a remarkable achievement for the boys as it was their first outing at an international competition. The Portal Championship course in Tarporley in England was a very challenging championship course and the Open was hosted by the England and Wales blind golf association. It was a truly international competition as there were players from all around the world. The players/guides had a fantastic time and were treated really well by everyone involved. It was a lovely experience meeting and spending time with everyone. Kate said “I didn’t have a good first day, but then had a really great 2nd round that got me placed as 2nd overall ladies net player. Bryan had an amazing first time out internationally. He Played well in both rounds. He Came in 12th in a very large field of players, in the Stableford competition”.
Nigel was overwhelmed with the camaraderie. He said “Top 12 finish for Bryan which was a great performance. He was not fazed in any way. Our highlight was when he chipped in on the 11th for an 8 and all the golfers guides and spotters were jumping around as if he had a hole in one. It was a great experience never to be forgotten”. Congratulations again to the fab 4 who represented NIBGA with style ⭐️⛳️🏌🏌️‍♀️
