The Three Sisters Gardening Community-West Belfast

The Three Sisters Gardening Community-West Belfast In Native American legend, corn, beans, and squash are three sisters who grow and thrive together. "It is in the shelter of each other that we live".

This system of planting is symbolic, in that we need others to grow, in spirit and as a community.

We support and share events from organisations and community groups involved in environmental initiatives and gatherings. Like the American Bar, we will not be sharing posts containing AI images.
AI is destructive.
We have to draw a line and this is ours.

Just a small PSA. As of this week have made the decision to boycott the use of AI in our premises.

The detriment that AI use has on the environment is well documented, but additionally AI when used in the design of promotional material and artwork constitutes a very real threat to the livelihood of artists and those working in the creative industries.

As a business, we deeply value the work of local artists and are joining a host of other local independent businesses and artists in boycotting the use of AI as an act of solidarity with those artists and creatives most acutely affected by this burgeoning, deeply damaging technology.

As a result, we will no longer allow the use of AI produced hard copy material in the premises of any kind and will not share AI generated content through our social media platforms. We work every week with a host of independent promoters, event organisers and community groups, and although we understand the cost effective nature of, in particular, AI generated advertising materials, The American will no longer assist in the sharing of these materials.

We deeply value the promoters and event organisers that call the American Bar home and hope that we can continue to work together to bring music, comedy and community events to Sailortown.

It is our hope that other businesses will do the same because let's face it, even a shoddily made poster cobbled together by the most inexperienced and computer shy of designers holds within it infinitely more creative value and interesting perspective than anything shat out the backside of Elon Musk's dystopian anti imagination machines.

Death to the Technocracy.

Take everything at your own pace.
You can just grab a cuppa and wander through the spaces.

We need to look at our urban growing infrastructure and build what's needed.
We need it to happen now.

We've been keeping an eye on how the hot climate and drought is affecting our food system. We're going to see prices rise and we know people are already struggling with food costs.
As a result, we're going to include videos on this page on how to make cheaper, nutrious food that's simple to create.
This is a very simple bread called focaccia. Once you get the hang if it, you can do it with your eyes closed.
This recipe uses 500gms of flour. 1.5kg of strong bread flour costs £1.22 in Asda. That's about 41p per loaf, plus the cost of yeast.
Get in to the way of it because the cost of a shop bought 400g white sliced loaf is now 75p minimum and home baked bread is more filling, containing none of the chemicals.
Send us your pics, if you give it a go!

Our changing climate, and it's effects here, needs addressed by Stormont. The Department for Communities (2024) reported that 349,000 people live in poverty, here. As food prices continue to rise, our government must show their awareness of our food insecurity and create plans to mitigate future impacts.
We must move quickly on this. People are already struggling.

The Government will meet to discuss this summer's record-breaking heat as the tally for days above 30C in the UK is broken.

All over the world, people are building growing spaces on waste ground. This is the story of Kofi Thomas in New York.

"The garden has become a place for all to gather and share. They frequently host art festivals, community picnics, poets, artists, and musicians to celebrate diversity and creativity in all their many forms. Part of Good Life Garden’s purpose is to share fresh vegetables with their neighbors. They routinely donate to local women’s shelters, church groups, and other community groups. To date, they’ve sent out over 10,000 pounds of fresh food"

Back in 2017, Kofi Thomas heard about a vacant lot in his Brooklyn neighborhood that had become an eyesore.
