Some people say the best part of coming to the shed is tackling the tricky problems - and this repair certainly kept us thinking!
The table arrived with a leg broken clean through in one place and another break imperfectly glued, leaving plenty of heads scratching. Normally we might simply remove the leg and make a new one, but the large tenon joint stubbornly refused to budge, resisting every attempt to dismantle it.
After carefully scraping away the old casein glue - only to reveal stains that looked even worse - we needed another plan. One of our members, a former professional furniture maker, suggested rejoining the broken pieces adding a new reinforcing tenon.
With steady hands and a bit of bravery, Brian drilled and inserted a strengthening pin to secure the repair. The final stage involved patient work with stains and varnish to blend everything back together.
The result? A once-wobbly table brought back to life - and a repair the shed is rather proud of.
