Sight Concern Bedfordshire

Sight Concern Bedfordshire Sight Concern Bedfordshire aims to improve the independence of blind and partially sighted people in Bedfordshire and Luton.

Sight Concern (Bedfordshire) is an independent, local, sight-loss charity providing information, advice and practical support for blind and partially sighted people in Bedfordshire and Luton.

“If I hadn’t had Sight Concern in my life I would still be at home, doing nothing all day, not talking to anyone.”

An estimated 13,000 people living in Bedfordshire and Luton are affected by sight loss.

Although visual impairment can occur at any age, it is more prevalent in older people, with 1 in 7 people aged over 65 and 1 in 3 people aged over 85 in the UK living with sight loss. Sight Concern works with visually impaired people, their families and carers to make it easier to live active, independent lives.

A look back at a couple of George's outreach events in May.

George gave a talk about Sight Concern's services and his sight loss journey to members of Luton U3A (University of the Third Age) at their annual general meeting. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

He also enjoyed meeting Leighton Buzzard residents at Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire's 'Just Ask' event on Leighton Buzzard High Street and raising awareness of sight loss services.

We're looking forward to attending more of Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire's 'Just Ask' upcoming events across the county:
- At Biggleswade High Street on 23rd June,
- At Shefford High Street on 13th August, and
- At Houghton Regis Morrisons car park on 4th September.
They're a great opportunity for members of the public to find out about local health & support services and give your feedback on healthcare too.

We’ve been celebrating some wonderful milestones this week, with volunteers reaching 5, 10, 15 and 25 years of service! We’re incredibly grateful for all our volunteers and the time, care and commitment they give.
Pat joined us at our volunteer celebration to receive her 5-year service certificate, and we’re so glad to have her as part of the team.
Pat said: ‘My volunteering role is to provide office and admin support. It has allowed me to keep my skills up to date, while also giving me a great way to meet people and stay involved in a working environment. The office is very friendly and welcoming, and it gives me a real sense of wellbeing to have the opportunity to help people.’
Want to make a difference and be part of something amazing?
Join our fantastic team of volunteers! To get involved, contact Lisa on 01582 256093 or email [email protected] — we’d love to hear from you!

Happy Volunteers’ Week! This week we’re celebrating our wonderful volunteers and the incredible difference they make every day. From delivering telephone befriending calls, to supporting our Low Vision Clinic, helping our admin team, serving as Trustees, and supporting our events, their time, care and dedication mean so much. On Monday, just a few of our amazing 80-strong volunteer team came together for a special celebration , Bedford. Thank you to each and every one of our volunteers for all that you do - we simply couldn’t do it without you!
