You wouldn’t think that this could be a danger for hedgehogs, but it is!
This hedgehog found itself trapped!
Please consider wildlife & make sure there is a gap under any old tyres you may have laying around so a hedgehog can move freely and escape!

💚🦔😢 Oh my- yet another danger for hedgehogs. Thank you to Jill for posting it. Look out for creatures in discarded tyres people!

Hi Everyone, how are you all? I thought I might pop in and say Hi and update you with what I’ve been up too, firstly let me say, Sorry I’ve been quiet, I’ve have been taking this time off to relax and get used to life without my rescue work with the hoggies. It’s been a big change.
My health continues to challenge me some days, so I know I did make the right decision to step back.
💜🦔💜
I thought I would let you know what I’ve been up too on my good days.. so, I’ve started a new hobby, it’s a nice relaxing way to spend the odd afternoon, & it’s planting up terrariums!
I know it’s an odd one, but I’ve always loved plants!
From old used Yankee Candle jars to larger Carboys, & specifically made terrarium jars, glass vases..
I fill with special substrate & plant them up with humid loving plants!
I thought I would share some that I’ve done so far, psee the pics.
Please don’t laugh these are my first attempts!
& I apologies for the bad photos, I quickly snapped them now.
I’ve enjoyed the process of making these, I hope to get better as I go along, and get used to the mediums I’m working with,
💜💜💜
Apart from the terrariums, I’ve also spent a bit of time & built Toby My over 80 year old Tortoise a new enclosure outside, David bought me a shed as a birthday present a few years ago especially with the intentions I would build Toby, his special garden. I never got around to kitting it out while I was caring for the hedgehogs. But with time now and a little more energy, I finally got going on this project.
I used some railway sleepers that we had in the barn to make a safe enclosed space/garden and I’ve planted some tortoise friendly plants, it’s still a work in progress, I still have tk add in the special UV lights in the shed, but a good start, a super special garden for my lovely Toby. I will take some pics of Toby out there for you and share soon.
💜🐢💜
The other thing that I’ve been doing it researching my family tree, I’ve got as far back as the 1700’s on my Dad’s side, both his Mum & Dads Side, which has been amazing, taking me all the way back to Poland on both grandparents sides, it’s been fascinating!
I’m struggling somewhat on my Mums side, she was born in Cape Town & although I know her Mums Name and have her marriage certificate to my Mums Dad, I can’t find her parents names, so I’ve come to a halt! I have however made contact with a chap in Cape Town through a genealogy group & hoping he may be able to help me take it further ! Fingers crossed.
💜
Well folks that’s about it for now..
💜
I honestly hope life treats you all well & you’re enjoying watching your hoggies in your gardens this time of year.? Let me know what you’ve all been up too in the comments .. would love to hear from you all…
💜💜💜💜
I do have my Hedgehog fix everyday with my wildlings and my disabled girls who continue to bring hedgehog joy to me. A girls couldn’t be hog free after all those years could she? Lol

🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔

So much love to each of you,

Amanda 💜🦔💜🦔💜🦔💜

Please be careful.
It’s too hot for walks,
For the dogs safety walk very, very early in the morning before the sun rises.. or very late in the evening when the sun is low and it’s had a chance to cool down.
Remember tarmac gets very hot, don’t walk your dog on the tarmac!
This time of year it’s best to go to a shaded place, with lots of trees, where you can feel a breeze.
Our two dogs do miss their daytime walks but for their safety we are only walking when it’s cool.
Best to be safe than sorry,

With the hot sunny weather upon us it’s really really important if you have hedgehog houses to make sure they are in full shade, they become like ovens if they are in the sun which for any hedgehogs inside will be very dangerous.
I know sometimes we install hog houses in the autumn but the sun is in a different position, a lot lower in the sky then summertime. So you may find your hog houses that was in the shade is now exposed to the sun.
If this is the case, it’s really very important that you shade it somehow. A brolly, a garden parasol, or wood over the top, anything you can think of to put shade over it.
My disabled garden is well shaded with lots of tree cover and although the houses look in the open, they don’t get full sun, at all.
I’ve actually popped another two houses in the garden today to give the hoggies in there some variation.
I’ve checked on 3 of my disabled hoggies today and they are nice and healthy and round! All are doing really well.
Sending lots of love
Amanda & the Hedgehogs
💜💜🦔💜💜🦔💜💜🦔💜💜
Don’t forget you can still send stars to help me care for our disabled girls.. who continue to receive care from me. 🦔🦔🦔💜 in shallow bowls please.
If you see any hoglets out in the day wondering round, it’s best to call your local rescue to seek advice.
