Mental Health Awareness 2026
Inform. Inspire. Action.
This year's mental health awareness week message is that awareness alone is not enough; we need collective action as a society.
El Prism’s key takeaways from the 2026 campaign are:
- Schools and Vocational Centres: While we have become more comfortable discussing mental health in schools and at work, we need to take daily, actionable steps to create lasting impact. Schools should incorporate this into pupils' daily learning and create safe spaces for children to talk about the challenges they face and their social anxieties.
- Workplaces: Employers are encouraged to take a proactive approach to staff well-being across all employee life cycles.

- Communities: A local councillor to lead and bring together communities. Activity-based gatherings are the best way to promote active engagement. Cake and creative arts stalls to showcase the stories and journeys of mental health victims.

Earth Day and beyond!

As the weather warms, consider supporting biodiversity by conserving and creating habitats for these fragile yet beautiful species.

You can also check out the Young Farmers Club. Make time on weekends to grab a backpack, some boots, and plenty of drinks to join young farmers' rallies in communities around you. Encourage young people to develop lifelong skills in regenerative agriculture, including land cultivation, animal husbandry, and raising lambs and chickens.

Joint post for Neurodiversity Week and Autism Awareness Month.

El Prism recognises and celebrates the distinct strengths of neurodivergent individuals, fostering inclusive cultures where everyone feels appreciated and empowered. Our organisation promotes supportive environments and works with partners who offer employability training tailored to different learning styles and employment opportunities.

Starting this week and continuing to the end of April, schools are encouraged to organise workshops and talks to raise awareness about neurodiversity. They can invite people to share their experiences. In addition, businesses are encouraged to share resources and create practical job opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities.

Last Saturday, we joined in a Slam Poetry recital to mark World Poetry Day, and the poem “PEACE THROUGH EDUCATION” by F. Touray was poignant.

Poetry as a bridge for and is indeed the way forward.

Happy Women's Day!
The 2026 theme emphasises how reciprocity can create lasting impact. When women are empowered and step up, they bring others along with them, helping communities flourish.

Thanks to the empowerment I've received, I’m now able to support women and children. Invest in a girl's education, and you can witness her growth and help strengthen her community.

“SKILLS FOR LIFE”
Celebrate Apprenticeship Week (9th-15 February) to showcase & highlight the transformative impact apprenticeships have on our youth, the workforce and a nation’s economy.

While we have seen growth in recent years, we strongly encourage more employers to participate in the scheme and open up new pathways for skill development and career opportunities for young people.

In recognition of the International Day of Education, I would like to highlight the foundational role families play in the educational journeys of young people. My own introduction to mathematics began at home, where my mother taught me multiplication tables using bottle lids as counters. A formative experience that fostered my lifelong appreciation for numbers and contributed significantly to my personal development.

That’s why, during my visit to Chef’s Nursery School in Sambuyang Village, Gambia, I was compelled to step up to the blackboard to engage with students, share in the learning experience, and continue the commitment to supporting education. Ena Loum

Happy World Children's Day!

World Children’s Day serves as a reminder that children deserve a voice and the right to participate in decisions that impact their lives. As a society, it is our responsibility to provide platforms and safe spaces that empower them to thrive.

We should prioritise attentive listening, recognising that every child has a voice and the right to protection each day.
