We’ve got some brilliant news to share 🎬

We’ve been awarded funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to support our new project: Being Deaf at Lexden Primary School: The First 50 Years.

Working with deaf children and former pupils of Lexden Primary School, we’ll use oral history and filmmaking to preserve and share 50 years of personal stories, memories and experiences of deaf education.

At the heart of the project is bringing generations together. Current pupils will have the opportunity to meet former pupils of different ages and discover first-hand how experiences of school, communication and deaf identity have changed over the last five decades.

These are stories that deserve to be recorded, shared and remembered - and we’re incredibly excited to help make that happen.

This project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. A huge thank you to the Heritage Fund and to everyone who plays the National Lottery for making projects like this possible.

🏃🏻Athletics is more than just a sport – it’s an opportunity for people to grow in confidence, make friends, and learn core skills that can be applied to all aspects of life. This is at the heart of the Junior Training Programme led by Thetford Athletic's Club.

From running, jumping and throwing events, the all-inclusive club offers young people the opportunity to get active, learn new athletics techniques, and most of all, have fun!

This World Mental Health Day, we’re thinking about the young people who may be struggling quietly.

Confidence, belonging and having a place where you feel heard can make a huge difference.

At The Offshoot Foundation, filmmaking is about far more than cameras and scripts. Our workshops give young people the chance to express themselves, work as part of a team, try something new, and discover what they’re capable of.

For some, that might mean speaking up for the first time. For others, it might be making new friends, finding a creative outlet, or simply feeling more confident in themselves.

We believe every young person deserves opportunities that help them feel valued, supported and able to find their voice.

This World Mental Health Day, we’re proud to keep creating spaces where young people can connect, create and grow.

In case you missed it, we’re delighted to be working with National Saturday Club to introduce the Film & Screen Saturday Club!

Across the UK, the National Saturday Club offers Saturday sessions at local universities, colleges and cultural organisations — helping young people develop skills, confidence and aspirations for the future.

Together, we’ll be hosting a series of FREE filmmaking workshops for young people to gain industry experience, work in a creative environment, and bring their imagination to life by creating their own film productions!

Last Sunday, five of our incredible team took on the London Vitality 10k – running to raise money to support the Foundation to continue delivering filmmaking workshops and creative opportunities for young people.

Amongst the huge accomplishment of completing the challenge, there were plenty of highlights along the way:
⏱ Henry, ex-young filmmaker and one of our many Facilitators, completed the race in 45 minutes
🏅 Roxy and Evie, ex-young filmmakers and Facilitators, both achieved PB’s
🏃🏻 Paul ran his first 10km race in a year
🎉 Cathy ran her first 10km race in over 3 years!

Come and join us for 4 FREE workshops where young people will learn the fundamental skills to creating a cinematic masterpiece. Across the workshops, attendees will work together to write, act, film and edit their very own Halloween-themed short film.

☀️ Six days. Six incredible workshops. Four locations.

That’s right! As part of the Offshoot on Tour programme, this summer the team visited Diss, Dickleburgh, Harleston & Pulham St Mary to deliver workshops that provided young people with the opportunity to develop creative ideas, learn practical filmmaking skills, and even make their own movie trailers – all of which were fantastic!

A special thanks to Norfolk Community Foundation and the Saracen's Norfolk Fund for supporting us to make this happen.

⭐️ We have some exciting news!

In collaboration with National Saturday Club, we’re delighted to introduce the Film & Screen Saturday Club – a series of FREE filmmaking workshops that provide young people aged 13-16 with the opportunity to kickstart their creative journey!

The sessions will enable young people to explore the world of filmmaking by gaining practical hands-on experience with professional equipment to create their own films – all in a safe, creative and collaborative environment.

Club attendees will also be invited to take part in masterclasses with industry professionals, and the Summer Show finale to share their fantastic work in a public exhibition!

Last week marked a key milestone in The Offshoot Foundation’s history as we hosted our first in-person strategy team day!

It was a great opportunity to bring the team together and dedicate this time to focus on the future direction of the charity.

During the day we spent time:
💡 Planning the future strategy for the Foundation
🧠 Brainstorming ideas to enhance workshops
🤝 Sharing knowledge, experience and expertise
🎬 Exploring new ways to make our workshops even more effective and valuable
🍕 Catching up and team bonding over pizza!

The day was a huge success - with lots of ideas and fresh thinking to take forward, which we’re excited to share with you.
