Big news: This week, the Vagrancy Act was finally repealed. This means that rough sleeping and begging are no longer criminal offences in England and Wales.

This archaic law dated back to 1824. It let people be arrested simply for having nowhere to live. Getting rid of it has taken years of campaigning from homelessness charities, lawyers and people with lived experience of homelessness - and we are thrilled to see this incredibly hard work pay off.

At QSA, we see what's behind the statistics every week. This change won't end rough sleeping. But it stops the law from punishing people for it, and that's worth marking.
