It's International Literacy Day today and we're so happy to introduce the LIFT: Poetry Anthology by patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre! ๐Ÿ“–

Through the Arts in Health Programme, patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre have been writing poetry together in sessions delivered in partnership with The Windows Project.

Curated by our poets in residence Alison Down and John Hughes, with the generous permission of every contributor, LIFT brings together poems written by people at their most vulnerable and their most resilient.

One contributor told us: "In the hardest struggle of my life my spirits were lifted by these lovely people who reminded me of who I am. Poetry defines me, not the wickedness of cancer." ๐Ÿ’š

You can now own a copy and support future sessions like these. LIFT: Poetry Anthology is available now in our online shop for ยฃ10.

Patricia's story, and how you can join her! ๐Ÿ‘‡

In August 2024, Patricia went for a routine smear test. A few weeks later, aged 46 and a mum of six, she was told she had cervical cancer.

"It was really scary," Patricia says. But she credits the NHS staff who supported her through it, and after three months away from her job as a Special Educational Needs teaching assistant, she was determined to get back to normal life.

Cancer has touched Patricia's family more than once, and that's part of why she wanted to get involved with Glow Green. She's signed up with her family and friends, and her message to others is simple:

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ "People going through treatment for any type of cancer are warriors."

Thank you, Patricia, for signing up and for sharing your story with us. If it's inspired you to join her, now's a great time. Sign up today and get 20% off registration... just ยฃ16 to take part!

To celebrate 30 years of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, we've added a brand new Garden Party scene to our LEGOยฎ model at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre โ€“ Liverpool ๐Ÿงฑ

Built brick by brick, this scene is part of our Summer Garden Party Appeal, and you can be part of it too. Sponsor an individual LEGO piece and help us support our Teenage and Young Adult Unit, giving young people facing cancer treatment access to experiences, weekly activities and a space where they can feel comfortable and supported throughout their care.

Every piece sponsored helps us keep building something special for the young people who need it most.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Summer Tea Party in the Winter Garden yesterday! ๐ŸŒป

It was a wonderful afternoon of celebration as part of our 30th birthday, with a raffle, beautiful choir performances, poetry readings and a piano recital filling the reception area with music.

Together, we raised an incredible ยฃ1,660, funds that will go directly towards supporting patients and families across The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. ๐Ÿ’š

Thank you to everyone who came along, sang, read, played and gave. Moments like these remind us just how much this community comes together to support one another. Here's to the next 30 years!

Last week, some of our patients and their families enjoyed a magical afternoon at Bents Garden Centre ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŽจ Despite the rain, there was plenty of fun to be had in the dino park, dino painting and a lovely lunch to finish off the day (no dino burgers involved, thankfully!).

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ "We had a fantastic day out thanks to Clatterbridge Cancer Charity and Bents Garden Centre. The opportunity of a free day out with food and the dino adventure was such a lovely treat for our family. It gave us a chance to forget about everything for a while, spend quality time together and make memories. Thank you all for making such a difficult time a little brighter."

Huge thanks to Bents Garden & Home for helping staff member Jane organise this special day, and for their kindness and generosity throughout. ๐Ÿ’š

Days like this are only possible because of our incredible supporters. Whether it's a bake sale at work, a sponsored walk with friends, or a challenge with your sports club, every fundraising activity helps us create more moments like this for patients and their families.

Meet Joshua: he's only 8 years old, but his kindness knows no bounds!

When Joshua heard that his friend's mum was undergoing cancer treatment, he decided he wanted to help, completely off his own back. His brilliant idea? A toy sale in his front garden, selling some of his own much-loved toys to raise money for cancer care. ๐Ÿ’

Joshua raised an incredible ยฃ220, proving that even the smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference. We are so proud to have Joshua supporting us, and so grateful for his generosity and thoughtfulness.

Inspired by Joshua? You don't have to be a superhero to make a difference. Whatever your idea, big or small, we'd love to help you get started: https://clatterbridgecharity.org/support-us/fundraise-your-own-way/ ๐Ÿ‘ˆ

"Every donation helps us continue creating special moments for young people with cancer, and we could not do it without the generosity of supporters like you".

That's from the Teenage and Young Adult Team at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, who see first-hand what your support means. โœจ

Weekly lunch clubs. Football matches. Zoo trips. Even a podcast with FACT Liverpool. These moments give young people facing cancer a chance to laugh, connect and simply be themselves.

Our Summer Garden Party appeal helps fund all of this, one sponsored LEGOยฎ item at a time. ๐Ÿงฑ

What better way to bring friends together than a little friendly competition and some delicious bakes! ๐Ÿฐ

We're so grateful to The Cookery Nook for hosting a fantastic Bake Off fundraiser at home with friends, raising an amazing ยฃ500 to support vital clinical trials, fund enhancements to patient care and to continue to make The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre the place it is today. ๐Ÿ’š

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who baked, took part and donated, helping to make this fundraiser such a success. Your generosity will help make a real difference to people affected by cancer across our region. Well done to everyone involved!

In 2025, Paula was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Six months of chemotherapy and immunotherapy followed, and genetic testing later found she carries the BRCA2 gene, leading to further surgery including a double mastectomy.

Having only recently moved to Liverpool, Paula was nervous about being treated somewhere new. But she says the team at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre made her feel safe, cared for, and seen as a person, not just a patient, with kindness, compassion and plenty of Scouse humour along the way! ๐Ÿ’š

"Clatterbridge is so much more than buildings, appointments and treatment," Paula says. "It's the people who care for you, support you and help you through some of the darkest days."

Now, Paula is bringing that same sense of community to the Glow Green Liverpool Walk on 12th February 2027, and she'd love you to join her. ๐Ÿ‘€

If Paula's story has moved you, why not lace up and walk with us under the lights?

We were kindly nominated as the partnered charity for Ladies Day last Friday at the Southport Flower Show, and what a day it turned out to be. ๐ŸŒธ

A huge thank you to Alan, Liz and the whole team at Southport Flower Show for choosing us, and to our brilliant Southport Fundraising Group for all their hard work on the day. Thank you also to Wongs Jewellers for their generous support.

We're especially grateful to the incredible Siobhan and her family, who spoke so beautifully about how Clatterbridge Cancer Charity has supported her through her journey. Moments like these remind us exactly why this work matters. ๐Ÿ’š

And to everyone who took part in the raffle and tombola, thank you! Together, you helped us raise an amazing ยฃ4,939. Every penny raised helps us continue to support people affected by cancer across our community.
