Milngavie and Bearsden Men's Shed

Milngavie and Bearsden Men's Shed The Milngavie and Bearsden Men’s Shed is open from 1000 to 1600 on weekdays and 1300 to 1600 on Saturday and Sunday. Membership is free.

We are based at The Pagoda, King George V Park, Borland Road, Bearsden, G61 2NE. A Men’s Shed is a larger version of the typical man’s shed in the garden – a place where he feels at home and pursues practical interests with a high degree of autonomy. A Men’s Shed offers this to a group of such men where members share the tools and resources they need to work on projects of their own choosing at th

eir own pace and in a safe, friendly and inclusive venue. They are places of skill-sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects, of purpose, achievement and social interaction. A place of leisure where men come together to work. Reclamation, reuse and restoration will feature strongly – and some say that is true of the men too! The health benefits to members has been researched and proven worldwide. The BBC says "For some men, retirement is a long-awaited chance to travel the world, hit the golf course, or take up a new hobby. For others, after decades in work, it can be a time of loneliness and isolation but across Scotland, a new movement is helping growing numbers of men improve their health and their mood. Men's Sheds have been set up across the country to enable men to come together to pursue practical interests like wood-turning and metalwork." Age Scotland says “ Visiting a Men’s Shed in full flow, listening to the shedders’ speaking about their Shed and hearing about it’s place in their lives, you can’t fail to recognise the positive impact that Sheds are having”. Age Scotland conducted a Health and Well-being Survey to identify benefits of being involved in a Men’s Shed - 94% of men had made good friends, 76% said their physical health had improved, 79% said their mental health had improved, 91% said they are doing things they enjoy, 84% had gained a sense of achievement. Our group has consulted with a number of local charities, local councillors and organisations and we are very pleased with the support shown. If you know of anyone who might be interested in becoming a member (free) please ask them to email [email protected]

TRUSTEES PLANNING MEETING.

To All Members

The trustees are holding a meeting at 1900 hrs on Tuesday 30/06/2026 at the Pagoda. The meeting is to discuss and decide how we will proceed with a cover over the yard to replace the present gazebos.

We have received some quotations from companies who can supply prefabricated shelters. Some members have already suggested solutions which can be erected by members.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for such a structure you are encouraged to join the meeting and present any photographs or plans to the meeting. It would be helpful if you could share your photographs or plans with me before Monday 29/06/2026 to be included in the meeting agenda.

We look forward to your attendance and involvement in the future of the men’s shed.

I have included photographs of the current two gazebos. Each one is 3 metres square.

Thank you.

Shed Opening Hours.

Our shed has not designated a particular open doors day as we have an ongoing policy of being open every day and visitors are welcome to drop in at any time while we are open.

We are open Monday to Friday from 1000 hrs to 1600 hrs

and

Saturday and Sunday from 1300 hrs to 1600 hrs

We only close on Christmas Day and New Years Day (unless asked to open).

Thank you to all our key holders who contribute to the extensive opening hours.

Oor Wullie, the swan and the Dugs.

Harry continues his construction of concrete garden ornaments. While his swan planters and various pets are readily recognised, he has now commenced a lifelike structure of Our Wullie sitting on his bucket. We have now moved Harry's work into the gazebo to allow a tidy up of the garage.

When finished the sculpture will be sold and contribute to shed funds. Thank you Harry for your entertaining works.

Defibrillator and CPR Awareness.

We are fortunate to have a defibrillator at our building. Lee and I regularly check the machine and ensure pads, batteries and other requirements are replaced. Please let us know if you think something requires attention.

On Tuesday 16/06/2026, John and Andy, First Responders, gave their usual instructions on use of the defibrillator and giving CPR. Eight of our members benefitted from the demonstration. Thank you John and Andy.

Trustee Standing Down.

After several years as trustee of the shed, Charlie has decided to stand down. The Chairman and Trustees wish to express their appreciation of the service Charlie has given to the shed. We can be assured that Charlie will continue to bring his personality to future projects in the shed. Thank you Charlie.

WELDING

At the Trustees meeting the trustees discussed safety and risk of welding in the garage. Plans are being made to remove welding from the garage.

In the meantime, welding may continue in the garage with the provision that another member must be present throughout to act as a fire marshall. The on duty keyholder should be informed before welding takes place and when it is completed. The keyholder will record the names of welder and marshall with date and times in the journal.

Any alternative suggestions should be made to any trustee.

REPAIR SHOP.

On Saturday 20/06/2026 the men's shed assisted the new Repair Shop in Milngavie. It was in St. Joseph's Church, Buchanan Street, Milngavie, from 1200 to 1500 hrs. Members of the public brought in a variety of articles for repair. The majority of articles were repaired while advise was given in a few cases. They hope to hold further repair shops, probably about every three months.

WORKSHOP.

While we like you to use the workshop as your workshop, you must remember that it is a multiple user workshop and you are required to tidy up any waste you generate. Please leave the workplace as you would like to find it and return tools to their proper place.

TOOL DONATIONS.

We have always been keen to accept tool donations at the shed. While we previously passed surplus tools to "Tools with a Mission", that destination closed.

We have now made contactI with the following company who are willing to accept tools for refurbishment, resale and even export to Malawi.
Trustees are in agreement that we should collect locally when offered and deliver to them.

We now require sturdy boxes, preferably plastic, to store and transport donated tools. If you have any suitable boxes please speak to Lee, Stuart or me. Thanks.

CHAIRS AND TABLE TOPS.

As a result of grant applications and a donation from the Killermont Crafters we have ordered new table tops for the three tables in the social area. We have also ordered eight new office style blue chairs with arms. The table tops will be delivered tomorrow while we will need to wait a couple of weeks for delivery of the chairs. The present chairs will be assessed before being repurposed.

ASSET TRANSFER.

Our asset transfer in respect of the flat next to the shed is still live. We made an appeal to Scottish Ministers which resulted in a site visit by a reporter. He has now submitted his report to Scottish Ministers at the Scottish Parliament who have still to consider the appeal. I will update the members when the appeal is decided.

KEY-HOLDERS.

Thanks are due to the many key-holders who ensure that the shed is open and welcoming to visitors. Several key-holders have now returned their keys for allocation to new key-holders. Duties are not onerous and full guidance will be given. If you would like to become a key-holder please speak to me or Lee. Thank you.

Hanging Baskets.

The hanging baskets have all been prepared and are now hanging on the shed. Stephen has installed them and the automatic irrigation system. Keyholders are reminded to water them each day. Thank you Stephen.

See you at the shed soon.

Classic Car Day - Milngavie Week.

We had a gazebo at the Classic Car Day on Saturday 06/06/2026 which marks the start of Milngaviw Week. This allowed us to raise the profile and local awareness of the Men's Shed.

Ralph and Alastair generously bought ice cream for those members in attendance.

We were fortunate to enjoy good weather and the event was very well attended. A number of potential members were informed of the benefits of joining our Men's Shed and we hope they will visit us soon. We were also pleased to receive some donations from the public who recognised the community work done by the members. Thank you.

Bearsden Brownies.

The Bearsden Brownies at Boclair Community Church, next door to our shed, asked if our members could give some instruction to the Brownies on use of tools.

Lee, Stephen and Charles responded to the request. Lee guided them on how to measure various articles. Stephen explained the different types of screws and allowed them to experience use of battery drill/drivers. Charles had the most exciting challenge in allowing them to hammer in and extract nails using claw hammers.

The Brownies and their leaders were most appreciative of the work. We hope this may inspire them to help their parents or carers to build flat-pack furniture. Thank you Lee, Stephen and Charles..

Harry meets Oor Wullie.

Harry continues his construction of concrete garden ornaments. While his swan planters, couple on a bench and various pets are readily recognised, he has now commenced a lifelike structure of Our Wullie sitting on his bucket. We thought it was appropriate to catch a photograph of Harry sitting on his bucket during the construction.

When finished the sculpture will be sold and contribute to shed funds. Thank you Harry for your entertaining works.

Shed Open Doors 2026

The Scottish Men's Shed Association has announced a shed open doors day taking place this month during Men's Health Week, 15th–21st June 2026, the event is a fantastic opportunity for Men's Sheds across Scotland to welcome visitors, showcase their projects and activities, and demonstrate the positive impact Sheds have on men's health, wellbeing, and local communities.

We only close on Christmas Day and New Years Day (unless ask to open).

Thank you to all our key holders who contribute to the extensive opening hours.

Use of Shed Computers.

Recently it was discovered that one of the computers in the small workshop is logged-in to a member's personal Microsoft account using the computer's admin account. ***THIS IS NOT PERMITTED*** These computers are a shared resource belonging to the shed. The only software allowed on these machines will be installed by Neil C, trustee, or selected others, but only if approved IN ADVANCE,

NEVER leave any personal files/accounts/logins etc on them that are not directly related to shed activities.

Any unauthorised data or photographs installed on shed computers will be permanently deleted. Thank you.

Defibrillator and CPR Awareness.

We are fortunate to have a defibrillator at our building. Lee and I regularly check the machine and ensure pads, batteries and other requirements are replaced. Please let us know if you think something requires attention.

John Gilligan, Shed member and First Responder, has agreed to give his usual instructions on use of the defibrillator and giving CPR. He will be at the shed at 1300 hrs on Tuesday 16 June 2026 when instructions will be in the social area.

If you would like to benefit from the demonstration please let me know as soon as possible as places are limited. If all places are not taken they may be offered to public who use the park.

Shed Extension.

The trustees have been looking at the possibility of extending our building. Unfortunately after discussions with a Structural Engineer and Quantity Surveyor our initial plans would appear to be disruptive to the drainage system and very expensive.

In view of this we are now examining the option to improve the covered area in the yard which is currently served by the two 3 meter square canvas gazebos. We have already had some suggestions but welcome any other designs or affordable suggestions. If you have any thoughts please speak to me at the shed. Thanks.

Obituary - Tommy McGuinness.

15/04/1923 - 16/05/2026 (103)

Tommy was the oldest shedder at the Milngavie and Bearsden Men’s Shed and possibly oldest shedder in the UK.

He was born in Argyle Street, Maryhill (before Maryhill became a district of Glasgow) on 15 April 1923. He left school at 14 and first worked as a soap-boy in a barber shop, lathering customers before they were shaved. He supplemented his income by going round door to door in the evenings selling kindling firewood.

He then managed to gain an engineering apprenticeship at Barr and Stroud Engineering where he became a very skilled engineer. Barr and Stroud is well known for optical engineering for military equipment and is famous for artillery sights, periscopes and now thermal imaging.

In 1945 Tommy was called up to serve in the RAF but he only spent two days in service. His commanding officer received a telephone call from the MD of Barr and Stroud to say that Tommy was in charge of the engineers making the sights for Spitfire aircraft and they urgently needed his return to sort out the problems they were now experiencing.

Tommy’s passion was mountaineering and skiing. He was a trailblazer in both and is named in many publications on these subjects. When opportunities arose he travelled the world seeking new climbing challenges and was able to use his engineering skills to quickly gain employment.

He met his wife, Pearl, in 1953 and they enjoyed 71 years of marriage before she passed away. They both enjoyed mountaineering and skiing.

Tommy was actively involved in mountain rescue and on one occasion recovered two bodies after spending 22 hours in blizzard conditions. This was when he first discovered that his sight was failing. Tommy completely lost his sight in the 1970’s.

This did not prevent Tommy continuing to enjoy his skiing. He continued to ski in Europe and America wearing a “Blind Skier” jersey and being guided by Pearl using a radio. He had great trust in Pearl. He says that the main benefit of his jersey was that other skiers always guided him to the head of any queues and they always cheered him on.

Until recently, Tommy lived alone in his flat in Milngavie with visiting carers. After hospitalisation he made recovery and then moved to Mugdock House Care Home, Bearsden, His friend, Ralph, who is a shed member, introduced Tommy to the Milngavie and Bearsden Men’s Shed. Until his last hospitalisation Tommy was a regular visitor to the shed. Tommy Enjoyed the social side of the shed and kept us all engaged with his entertaining and interesting stories. I was listening to him with interest one day when after about 5 minutes he said “are you still there?” We then realised the importance of speaking to him while he is talking. He was also an excellent singer and entertained us with his songs at our Christmas lunches.

Tommy enjoyed the shed and while he enjoyed telling others about his life he also enjoyed the banter in the shed. In his last few years he has had a hip replacement and pacemaker fitted and recovered quickly from both.

I once asked Tommy the important question. What is the secret of your long life? His answer “White and McKay and s*x at high altitude.” However, he did acknowledge his good fortune to have had the support of a loving wife who allowed him to have such a fulfilled life.

He was genuinely loved by his friends at the Milngavie and Bearsden Men’s Shed and will be sadly missed.

His funeral will take place at Maryhill Crematorium at 1430 hrs on Wednesday 3 June, 2026.

The Big Lunch

This event is held in the park and shed members and their families are welcome to attend. I hope to see you at the Big Lunch.

Stripper in the Workshop.

Neil and Kenny have been busy stripping old cable for scrap. They remove plastic insulation from electrical wire of all types and allow the copper to be recycled. While being of benefit to the environment it will also raise funds for the shed.

We recognise that many households have old cable in their garage, shed or workshop and no longer have a use for it. Changes in legislation have also made many cables obsolete. The men's shed will be pleased to accept donations of any surplus electrical cable for recycling.

Killermont Primary School - Project..

The team continue to work on producing road safety bollards for the school. The design has been finalised and graphics approved by the school. We await the final prints and hope to assemble to bollards soon.

Thank you Bearsden East Community Council for sponsoring the project.

Baljaffray Nursery Project

This team have been busy erecting a fence and assembling planters for the children in the nursery. Craig made good use of his power driven auger to install the fence posts. The project is nearing completion and the nursery staff will fill the planters and paint the fence, while the nursery children will enjoy planting and watching their efforts grow. Well done everyone involved in the project and Malcolm for coordinating everything.

Pavement Parking.

When you visit the men's shed please do not park on the pavement. One of our neighbours was recently ticketed. Please ensure that there is access to the park for vehicles carrying out park maintenance. Thank you.

Greater Glasgow and Clyde Men's Shed Association.

The GG and C Men's Shed Association met on Wednesday 13/05/2026 at Milngavie and Bearsden Men’s Shed. Stewart Beck from SMSA chaired the meeting which was well attended. Several sheds were represented and a lot of mutual learning took place.

Richard Soutar who is a member of our shed is now Secretary of the Helensburgh Men's Shed and Peter Flockhart, also a member of our shed is also Chairman of Bishopbriggs Men's Shed. We are pleased to offer assistance to Helensburgh and Bishopbriggs in the creation of their sheds.

Unsung Heroes

At the Milngavie and Bearsden Men’s Shed we have a number of members who quietly and without general recognition carry out work at the shed. We all appreciate that lights get sorted, drains cleared, windows washed, bins emptied and miraculously the tea, coffee and biscuits never run out.

A special thanks to our unsung heroes.

HOPE TO SEE YOU AT THE SHED SOON.

A View from the Chair.

Hi everyone, I am sure all of you are aware that I have taken over as chair of the Shed from Alastair, who has been a steady hand on the tiller for a number of years. Alastair will continue as a Trustee with a focus on the planned extension to the Shed.

I am certain that Shed members appreciate Hamish’s regular newsletters. I thought I would maybe add a section to the newsletters from time to time to keep members up-to-date with what is happening ‘behind the scenes’ from my perspective as chair.

Firstly, there are many of you who may not know me and so I thought I would give a few words of background. I spent my career carrying out basic research into viruses at Glasgow University. As retirement loomed, I was interested in gaining more DIY skills, especially in woodwork and so joining the Shed seemed an obvious choice. Although my range of skills has grown (a bit), a really pleasant surprise was not only the welcoming atmosphere but the breadth of life experiences of Shed members. I rarely took coffee breaks while I worked but I have found that I really enjoy the chat over a cuppa at the Shed!

Many of you visiting the Shed recently will see plans for the side extension and canopy that have been prepared by Alastair. The Trustees are keen to move this forward to the planning stage. We are now looking to gain advice from a structural engineer and quantity surveyor to gauge the feasibility of the plans before they are submitted. Any feedback on the current plans from Shed members would be valued.

We will be submitting an application to the Scottish Men's Shed Association for a ‘Scottish Men’s Shed of the Year' award. Awards are made on a regional basis and it would give us the chance to showcase how our Shed contributes to the well-being of members. We will also have a stall at the Milngavie Week on 6th June. It will be another opportunity to demonstrate the activities that happen at the Shed and how they contribute to the local community. Finally, the branded workwear ordered by Charlie should arrive this week. I am looking forward to seeing our new ‘uniforms’!

All the best,

John

Garage Tidy

The tidy up in the garage continues with the er****on of new heavy duty shelving to store tins of paint. Neil and Charles do the installation while John and Charlie do the planning - all while Harry's concrete animal sculptures watch on.

Thank you everyone who is contributing to the tidy-up.

Stripper in the Workshop.

There was much excitement in the shed when it was announced that there was a stripper in the workshop. As a result of a grant from Bearsden West Community Council, we were able to purchase a WIRE STRIPPER machine. This will be used to remove plastic insulation from electrical wire of all types and allow the copper to be recycled.

Thank you Bearsden West Community Council.

Curry Night.

On Wednesday 29/04/2026 the members enjoyed a curry night at the Raja Rani Restairant in Bearsden. Ralph organised everything from menu, booking and payment. A thoroughly enjoyable night was had by all. Thank you Ralph and Raja Rani.

Rats

Some neighbours around King George V Park have recently reported having rats in their gardens. I spotted one feeding from our bird feeder and have taken steps to deal with it.

The RSPB advises feeding garden birds seasonally and safely to reduce disease, specifically pausing seed/peanut feeding from May 1–October 31.

Concern has been expressed about schoolchildren at lunchtime discarding food in the park and near the men's shed which may encourage rats. The men's shed has been fortunate not to have rats and will be taking measures to remove discarded food and ensure a rat free environment.

East Dunbartonshire Council charge £99 plus VAT for up to three visits of their pest control services while some private companies quote £400.

See you soon at the shed.

Key-Holders

Thursday was the 8th anniversary of us signing the lease and obtaining the keys for the Pagoda. It was in a derelict condition when we took it over but look a it now !

The success of our shed can be attributed to the many key-holders who selflessly give of their time to ensure that the shed opens and closes on time. They also contribute to the welcome given to visitors and ensure the smooth running of the shed. Shed key-holder duties are not onerous. It also allows a key-holder to enter the building outwith normal hours to use machinery providing standard safety is observed. Some key-holders perform duties weekly, however, with sufficient numbers a morning or afternoon duty once per month should be enough to cover all periods.

If you would like to become a key-holder please speak to me or Lee at the shed.

It is recognised that personal circumstances change and some past key-holders are no longer available to carry out duties. Those keys should be returned to me or Lee to be allocated to new key-holders.

Garage Tidy

The photograph shows how tidy the garage was previously.

This week members are asked to help with tidy-up of the garage. Seamus has already commenced with a workshop and gazebo tidy-up over the weekend. Lee has already commenced on the garage. New shelving has to be installed in the garage and the cement sculpture work will be relocated to the gazebo. Please speak to me or Lee is you wish to help with this project.

Welding Project

Crawford brought in a broken boat trailer mover. Craig quickly carried out a welding repair. Well done Craig.

New CNC Machine

The new CNC machine has now been installed in the main workshop. Details of video instructions are on the Workshop WhatsApp group and should be watched before attempting to use the machine. Neil C has set up the machine and is usually at the 1100 hrs meeting on Tuesdays, where you can seek answers to your questions on operation of the machine. Thank you Neil C for setting up the machine and Gordon M for constructing the cabinet. This photograph shows Neil demonstrating use of the machine to members.

Baljaffray Nursery Project.

Members continue work on the Baljaffray Nursery Project. Fence sections have been prepared for er****on and have now been delivered. The raised planters are still under construction. This is a photograph of a mud kitchen well used by the primary school. However, the nursery also needs a similar mud kitchen. If you would like to help erecting the fence, building planters or building a mud kitchen please speak to Malcolm or join the project WhatsApp Group at the shed.

Laser Project

Seamus has been experimenting with the AGM group photograph on the laser printer. Very much a work in progress. Well done Seamus.

Sad News.

Sad to say that we have heard that our member Fraser Gold (90) has recently passed away. He usually visited the shed on Thursday mornings and was a great friend of Tommy McGuinness, sharing their common interest of the mountains.

Funeral is at 11.15 am, Fri 17th April, in Glasgow Crematorium, Tresta Road, G23 5AA.

Birthday Celebration.

Tommy McGuinness celebrates his 103 birthday on Wednesday 15 April 2026. He has now settled in Mugdock House Care Home in Bearsden and is without doubt the oldest shed member in Scotland (unless you know otherwise). Although now unable to visit the shed he regularly receives visits from shedders at the care home. He still regularly enjoys his Whyte and Mackay tipple.

Baljaffray Nursery Project.

Members continue work on the Baljaffray Nursery Project. Fence sections have now been prepared for er****on and we now have scaffold boards to construct the raised planters. If you would like to help please speak to Malcolm or join the project WhatsApp Group at the shed.

Spring Cleaning.

With the start of Spring weather, between winter showers, Stephen has cleaned all the shed windows to allow members to enjoy the Spring sunshine. Thank you Stephen.

The shed trustees hold their next scheduled meeting on the evening of Tuesday 21 April, 2026 in the shed. If you have any subject you would like raised or discussed please speak to any trustee before that date. (Image AI generated)

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2026.

The Milngavie and Bearsden Men’s Shed Annual General Meeting was held within Boclair Community Church on Wednesday. It was very well attended. Alastair announced that he was standing down as chairman after serving as chairman since September, 2019. He has agreed to continue as a trustee. John McLauchlan agreed to take over as chairman. A group photograph was taken after the meeting before we all enjoyed sandwiches supplied by Murdo's Corner Shop.

Thank you to Boclair Community Church who allowed us the use of their hall for the meeting.

The Trustees are:

John McLauchlan, Chairman.

Hamish Livingstone, Secretary.

Lee Shield, Depute Secretary.

Rob McLean, Treasurer.

Bobby Strain, Depute Treasurer.

Alastair Ewen.

Neil Castell.

Timber Donation

Tony from the Spencer Group at the Erskine Bridge donated a large amount of 6'x6"x3m timber to the shed. We were fortunate to have the help of Billy Fulton, local builder, who transported the timber to our shed. It is now stacked and we hope to use it to construct a covered work area. Alastair is currently working on plans for a planning application. Thank you Tony, Billy Fulton, Alastair and everyone who unloaded and stacked the load.

Tuesday Lunch.

Last two weeks

Seamus prepared mince and tatties which was so plentiful that it also became a Wednesday lunch.

Charles served beefy bake with chips and beans with cake to follow. It proved so popular that several late attenders were disappointed as the food had run out. Fortunately Murdo's shop is nearby and supplementary sandwiches were obtained.

This Tuesday 17/03/2026 will be the last Tuesday Lunch until it resumes in the Autumn. It will be special as Craig is preparing his excellent curry dishes, followed by cheesecake. There is no speaker this week.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to making Tuesday lunch. It has proved very popular and also raised funds for the shed.

Barrhead Men's Shed Notice

The members are currently putting together some examples of our work, a few shown in the pics.Just a reminder that the Neilston show takes place on the first Saturday of May, here is a link to the website -

https://neilstonshow.co.uk/

We operate as a charity and ask for a donation with a minimum to cover our costs. If anyone is interested in obtaining any of these prior to the show, just get in touch and arrange to drop by at the shed. We are open weekdays 10.00 till 1pm.

Mud Kitchen.

This week we delivered a mud kitchen to Barmulloch Primary School, Glasgow. It will mainly be used by children with special needs. It is heartening to see the look of appreciation on the faces of the children. The janitor accepted the mud kitchen on behalf of the children and he is arranging for it to occupy a popular space outside.

Notice from East Dunbartonshire Council.

EDC Roads Operations is to carry out footway resurfacing works on sections of the A81

Milngavie Road, Bearden, between its junctions with Gray Drive and Roman Road/B8049 Boclair Road, Bearden. In order for the works to be carried out in a safe manner, rolling temporary four way traffic signals incorporating pedestrian crossing facilities as required and also temporary lane closures will be used to control traffic movements on Milngavie Road, between its junctions with West Chapelton Avenue and Roman Drive/Boclair Road, Bearden, from 9.30am on Monday 30 March 2026 for approximately three weeks. The temporary traffic signals will be manually controlled between 7am and 7pm, each day. The use of temporary traffic signals may result in delays to traffic in the area.

As part of the above footway resurfacing works, a temporary road closure will be on West Chapelton Avenue and West Chapelton Drive, Bearden for the north phase of the works, for your information, from up to 5 days. Alternative diversion routes will be sign posted.

We recognise that these improvement works may cause some inconvenience for residents, but we hope that this will be offset by the long-term improvements we are making to the carriageway network in your area. We would like to thank you in advance for your assistance in enabling us to complete these works.

Weekend Opening of the Men's Shed.

We are continuing with experimental weekend opening. Currently we are now open on SATURDAY and SUNDAY from 1300 to 1600 hrs. Weekend opening seems to becoming more popular. We continue to open on weekdays from 1000 to 1600 hrs. Thanks are due to the volunteer key holders who make this possible. I believe we may be the first men's shed in Scotland or possibly even UK to trial seven day a week opening.

ASSET TRANSFER APPEAL.

On Friday 06/03/2026 we had a visit from Paul Haggin MRTPI. He will review our appeal to Scottish Ministers on our previously refused asset transfer application regarding the flat next to our building. We have submitted answers to a number of questions as has East Dunbartonshire Council. We now await a decision from the Reporter. Details can be viewed on the Scottish Government site - Planning and Environmental Appeals Division with the reference CAT-200-1. Link:

The Community Councils hosted a meeting on Thursday 19 March 2026 at the newly reopened Bearsden Community Hub at 69 Drymen Road, Bearsden. The subject was roads and pavements in Bearsden and Milngavie. 20mph, pavement parking and Canniesburn Roundabout featured.

Councillors and Council Officers were invited to answer your questions. The Council Officers declined to attend due to the commencement of the pre election period.

Questions were submitted to and answered in advance by East Dunbartonshire Council. Several councillors were in attendance with a Sergeant from Police Scotland. Many interesting questions were asked and answers given.

If interested, I can provide a report of the meeting by email.
