💞 We are proud to announce that Daily Living & Wellbeing CIC are now officially recognised Home Office Windrush Compensation Scheme Advocates for Yorkshire & Humber 💞

Over recent weeks, we have been working hard behind the scenes carrying out community outreach, raising awareness of the Windrush Compensation Scheme, and supporting individuals and families who may have been affected by the Windrush scandal.

Many people are still unaware that they may be eligible for support or compensation. Others may have lost trust in systems due to the experiences they have faced over many years. Our role is to provide independent advocacy, guidance, and practical support throughout the process in a safe, respectful, and compassionate way.

As part of this new work, we have been actively engaging with community groups, local organisations, and residents across the region to help identify and support as many Windrush victims as possible.

Due to the increasing demand for this specialist advocacy work, we are also beginning to gradually wind down some of our previous services so we can dedicate more time and resources to supporting those impacted by the Windrush scandal.

If you, a family member, or someone you know may have experienced issues relating to immigration status, passports, employment, housing, healthcare, benefits, detention, or difficulties proving their right to live in the UK, please reach out to us in confidence 💞

✨ March has been a powerful and deeply meaningful month at Daily Living and Wellbeing CIC ✨

Behind every piece of work this month is a person navigating stress, uncertainty or exhaustion — and needing someone in their corner. Our focus has been on showing up consistently, reducing that pressure, and making sure no one feels alone in the process 🤝

This month has included:

✔️ Supporting a client through a 40-page DLA application, with weekly phone calls to gently work through each section together. What can feel overwhelming and unmanageable alone became achievable with the right support. The form was safely sent via signed-for next day delivery to prevent it from being lost.

✔️ Standing alongside a primary Windrush claimant who had experienced a prolonged and unnecessary delay, despite their case already being completed. After over a month of waiting for senior sign-off, a detailed complaint was submitted — and within just two days, the case was resolved. A reminder of how important it is to challenge delays and keep pushing for fairness ⚖️

✔️ Completing two new Windrush applications, helping individuals take important steps towards recognition, resolution and stability after often long and difficult journeys.

✔️ Ongoing advocacy, follow-ups and communication with services to ensure people are not forgotten, ignored or left waiting without answers.

✔️ Creating space for people to be heard, understood and supported — especially when systems feel overwhelming or inaccessible.

Every conversation, form and follow-up represents someone who may be feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to turn. March has been about providing reassurance, reducing pressure, and advocating strongly to achieve the right outcomes, about persistence, compassion and standing firm in advocacy — making sure every person we support is treated with dignity and respect.

💙 February has been another impactful month at Daily Living and Wellbeing CIC 💙

This month, we’ve continued supporting individuals in our community to build confidence, independence and improved wellbeing in their everyday lives 🌿From one-to-one support sessions to wellbeing-focused activities, we’ve been working closely with people to help them set goals, develop life skills, and access the right services for their needs.

our work has focused heavily on advocacy, practical support and standing alongside people during some incredibly stressful situations.🤝

✔️ I attended a PIP telephone assessment with a service user living with anxiety and depression. After multiple rearrangements, the assessment did not go ahead on the day, which caused significant distress. We were able to reschedule and successfully complete it a few days later, ensuring they were supported throughout the process.

✔️ I held a consultation with a service user recently released from prison who is working to continue his PIP claim and rebuild stability in the community.

✔️ Provided outreach support to help a service user renew their driving licence — a small but important step towards maintaining independence.

✔️ Supported a service user with ADHD, depression and anxiety to complete a Limited Capability for Work form, and ensured it was safely sent to the DWP via recorded delivery.

✔️ Completed a further Limited Capability form for a service user living with long COVID, chronic fatigue, diverticulitis, liver disease, polyarthritis, duodenitis and additional health conditions. After the DWP stated they had not received her original form — which she had spent weeks completing — she felt exhausted and overwhelmed. Through several phone and face-to-face meetings, I was able to take the pressure off, complete the form on her behalf, and send it securely by recorded delivery.

✔️ Assisted a vulnerable pensioner with submitting a planning objection, ensuring their voice was heard.

✔️ Spoke with the Windrush Team multiple times to chase up three ongoing cases, continuing to advocate for fair outcomes and timely progress.

Behind every form, phone call and meeting is a person who may be feeling overwhelmed, unheard or exhausted by the system. February has been about reducing that stress, advocating strongly, and making sure no one has to navigate these processes alone.

If you or someone you know needs support with benefits, forms, advocacy or wellbeing, please feel free to get in touch 💬

🍁January Monthly Round-Up – Daily Living & Wellbeing CIC 🍁

During the month of January, Daily Living & Wellbeing CIC continued to deliver dedicated, person-centred support to individuals within our community through a combination of outreach visits, telephone assistance, and online advocacy.

Our focus remained on improving access to essential services, strengthening independence, and supporting overall wellbeing.✨

✔️This month we successfully completed and posted multiple Personal Independence Payment (PIP) applications for service users, ensuring that all evidence and supporting documents were carefully prepared and submitted within required timeframes.

✔️We also provided extensive Windrush support to a service user with an ongoing compensation claim. This included liaising directly with the Home Office through a scheduled telephone meeting with a case worker, as well as compiling a detailed cost analysis of out-of-pocket expenses incurred throughout the process. These costs covered travel to attend meetings with an MP, visits to Citizens Advice, fees associated with requesting a Subject Access Request, immigration lawyer and multiple international communication and document-retrieval costs required to obtain additional evidence requested by the Home Office. This work ensured that the service user’s claim was supported by accurate financial records and comprehensive documentation.

✔️Our outreach services supported several elderly and vulnerable clients with practical digital and administrative needs. This included assisting one client with resetting broadband access and restoring online services, and supporting another with submitting optical and dental claims online.

✔️We also helped a pensioner send digital health documents to their insurance company, promoting digital confidence and ensuring important information was delivered securely.

✔️In addition, we provided specialised outreach support to a cancer patient who required assistance to complete a will and submit Lasting Power of Attorney applications for both Health & Welfare and Property & Finance, helping to ensure their wishes, rights, and legal protections were properly documented during a sensitive time.

Overall, January was a highly productive month centred on advocacy, digital inclusion, legal and financial guidance, and compassionate day-to-day support — reinforcing our ongoing commitment to empowering individuals and improving quality of life across the community.⭐

🌟 December Round-Up | Daily Living and Wellbeing CIC 🌟

We know this update is a little late — but as we move forward, we’ll be sharing monthly (and sometimes bi-weekly) round-ups to give a clearer picture of the support we’re providing in our community 💙

Here’s a snapshot of some of the work we completed in December:

✔️ Supported a dyslexic and dyspraxic service user by drafting a clear, accessible letter on their behalf, ensuring their voice and needs were properly represented.

✔️ Held weekly support calls with a service user living with multiple health conditions to help them with a PIP application. Following in-depth discussions about how their conditions affect daily living, we drafted the application to reflect their lived experience accurately and compassionately.

✔️ Assisted a dyslexic company director with completing online ID verification and setting up access on GOV.UK, reducing stress around complex digital processes.

✔️ Provided a debt support consultation for a service user experiencing high levels of debt, including referral to Business Debtline and discussion of Breathing Space options to help protect their wellbeing while exploring solutions.

✔️ Continued outreach to support a Windrush Compensation Scheme service user, helping gather additional information to strengthen their claim.

Every interaction is rooted in patience, understanding, and respect. We’re proud of the progress made — and even prouder of the trust our service users place in us.

Thank you for being part of our journey. More updates coming soon 🌱
