“…But if you buy from (business name) you can get it £5 cheaper…”
Yes, the photo shows the Outlookers Dewsbury visual impairment group supporting each other during a recent session. And yes, everyone around that table is living with some form or level of visual impairment — that’s one thing that unites us.
Another thing that brings us together? Being money-savvy Yorkshire folk. We know that the best solutions for living well with sight loss often come from people who understand it first-hand.
So if you’re looking for practical, cost-effective ways to make life easier, come along and see us at one of our groups — where lived experience and good sense go hand in hand.

The Batley Visual Impairment Support Group meets every Monday (except bank holidays) at the Whitfield Centre, 180 Soothill Lane, from 10am–1pm.
The group is always well attended, with people coming along for many reasons – from enjoying the social side and forming lasting friendships, to chatting with like‑minded people who share similar life experiences and challenges. Others attend to learn new skills or receive support, such as help using smartphones with visual settings or screen readers.
New members are always very welcome. 📸 The accompanying photo was taken during a recent group session.

🌟 Huddersfield Visual Impairment Support Group 🌟
Join us each Friday for our friendly and welcoming support group, held from 10:30am – 12 noon at Brian Jackson House, 2 New North Parade.
We take a person-centred approach, so everyone can get what they need from the session. For some, it’s a great opportunity to socialise and catch up with friends. For others, it’s a chance to learn from the lived experiences of others and share their own journey.
There’s also the opportunity to build confidence with basic technology, such as learning to use text-to-speech apps or adjusting phone settings to make them easier to see—just to name a few examples.
💬 New members are always very welcome!

We were lucky enough to be joined at this week’s Dewsbury group by Pete from Mikron Theatre Company 🎭
Pete shared fantastic insight into Mikron’s inclusive approach, explaining how audio description is built directly into their productions—making performances fully accessible for people with visual impairments, without the need for additional equipment. He also treated us to a short audio demonstration and was more than happy to answer our members’ questions.
Mikron’s unique approach really sets them apart, and we’re sure many of our members will be catching a performance (perhaps even on a narrowboat!) in the future.
A big thank you to Pete for making the trip and keeping our members so engaged and informed.

We’re pleased to host our visual impairment support group in Cleckheaton twice a month, on the first and third Friday from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Rose & Crown pub.
A special thank you to Richard and the team at the Rose & Crown for welcoming us into the heart of the community, and to the players of the , whose funding through The National Lottery Community Fund helps us to deliver our local services.
We’re also grateful to our wonderful volunteers, Lesley and Kath, for hosting another successful raffle and raising £35. Thank you to Martin for always being on hand to offer technology support, and to our regular member Tracy—our very own craft queen—for generously donating £15 from the sale of her knitted creations.
The accompanying photos were taken during a recent gathering and show some of our regular members enjoying the group.
New members are always welcome—we’d love you to join us!
