Challenge Poverty Week: What We Do 🌟
During Week, we want to share the vital work we do at the West Lothian Food Network. We are a collaborative of member organisations committed to addressing inequalities and supporting individuals and families from low-income backgrounds, rural areas, and disadvantaged groups at risk of poorer health outcomes due to food poverty.
✨ Our Mission:
We strive to ensure that everyone has access to quality and nutritious food, offering choice and dignity in their food choices.
Here’s how we make a difference:
Early Intervention: We identify beneficiaries in areas of hidden poverty, even in affluent neighbourhoods, where high levels of debt exist.
Crisis Support: We provide essential support to avert food poverty, ensuring that individuals and families can access the food they need during challenging times.
What We Offer:
• Educational cooking classes
• Community shops, cafés, and larders
• Drop-in pantries and community fridges
• Distribution of cooked meals
• Debt and welfare advice
• Anti-poverty referrals
• Food vouchers and parcels
Together, we feed over 4,000 beneficiaries weekly, providing place-based support that empowers our communities.
Join us in our mission to create a Scotland where everyone has dignified access to good quality, healthy, and sustainable food. Together, we can challenge poverty and build a brighter future for all!
