A huge thank you to everyone who came along and showed their cars, volunteered to help and those who came along on the day to support the charities. I think everyone would agree it was a fantastic day. What is more we have raised a lot of money for charity.
The current count is £4350, we have a couple of payments due in and expect to hit the £4500. This will go a long way to help the charities - thank you.
Also a huge thank you to you all for how tidy the site was after the event. Considering how many people were there, with food trucks, stalls etc, the area was kept very clean and everyone used the bins provided - thank you it really does make a difference with the clear up afterwards.
Unfortunately, and I really don’t want to detract from how great the day was but I do feel the need to point out that we put a huge amount of effort in creating this event, we have volunteers who give up their time to make sure the day goes well and we are supported by multiple companies who provide the facilities. We all give this gladly, and we do genuinely appreciate every person that comes along to display their car. However this year we experienced a large number of people leaving early, some just 20minutes after the start time. We had some really disrespectful people such as the couple in the red and white Karman Ghia who felt the need to drive through all the members of the public (children and dogs included) to leave because their dog had been sick, not only that, but when challenged by my wife (the owner of the nursery who puts on the event) when she asked them to wait as I was on my way to walk them out. They decided they knew better and decided to drive back through the crowd causing severe safety concerns. Or the person that decided they would drive over the grass to exit because they couldn’t be bothered going to the gazebo and asking if they could be walked out.
Not only does this place people at risk, but our insurance is for a static event. If this is breached our landlords can (and will) withdraw the use of the site and the show will be cancelled meaning we are unable to raise further funds for the charities.
In addition it resulted in large empty areas of the show for people who arrive after 2pm when the show was advertised until 4pm.
Going forward anyone who wants to display their car must book in, they must agree to the show rules and all cars must remain in place until the end of the show. I do not think it is a lot to ask - we do understand that emergencies happen and some people may need to leave unexpectedly, but a dog that has been sick or “I cant stay because I have somewhere else to be” are not acceptable.
We put a lot of personal expense into making this show happen and do not charge a penny unlike most other car shows. Every single penny raised goes directly to the charities.
I apologies for the rant but it needs to be said, so for everyone that did follow the rules - thank you.
