It’s June and the start of our season! We’d love for as many fairies to join in. Pop a Pride sticker on a book, maybe add a little rainbow ribbon, and hide it for a lucky finder 🌈

Another great way to celebrate is to share a pic of one of your favourite Pride related books, and maybe do a post!

This Thursday is World Book Night and The Book Fairies are celebrating this initiative, encouraging the act of reading in our busy day-to-day lives! While it’s usually aimed at the UK, we think that everyone around the world deserves to celebrate and take some time out of their day on Shakespeare’s birthday 💚

What is World Book Night?

From 7pm to 8pm GMT this Thursday, people plan to dedicate their time to reading, sharing their activity under the hashtag . This can happen in many different ways, whether you’re reading alone, hosting a book club meeting, listening to an audiobook on the train, or reading to your children at
bedtime. Just get reading! Many around the world celebrate World Book Day also on the 23rd of April 📚

How can I prepare?

Share the news with family and friends, let them know that, for one hour, there may be a little quiet between telephones as you snuggle up with a book. You can
also choose your book ahead of time, and get excited about entering a new world, for however long you’d like!

As April 23rd is a certain Bard’s birthday, maybe pick up a play of his you’ve not read yet, or a collection of sonnets. The choice is yours!

We encourage you to take some time out of your evening to unwind and prioritise your TBR, whether it be for the full hour, or five minutes, show your bookshelf
some love!

Let’s go offline to mark the end of December! Our very first was on the last Sunday of December in 2017, so this is a special one to mark every year.

Take Sunday 28th December for your own reading pleasure! It is a chance to get away from screens and curl up with a good book 💚

What does this mean?

A day of reading is a chance to put down your phone, log off social media stuff and just... read. Read that book you love. Read that book that’s been on the shelf for ages. Read that book you bought yesterday. Read that book you’ve told everyone you’ve already read. Listen to a book while organising your book shelf. Whatever it is, we are celebrating a whole day offline with a book. 📚

How can I get involved?

It’s pretty easy. Just pick up a book and read. Ideally (for you) all day. Or at least part of the day. We want to encourage fairies to spend a good few hours losing yourself in another world. And yes it is a little selfish... as that is exactly what we want to do too 😊

What can I do to prepare?

Choose a book! Then? Tell everyone you’re celebrating a Day of Reading with The Book Fairies and you might be a little quiet. You can even share the book you’ve chosen by commenting below or posting with   BEFORE Sunday 28th 👍

Book Fairies Unwrapped is coming back around very soon! The idea is that during the festive season, book fairies pop a sticker on a book, dress it up in wrapping paper and leave it (perhaps near decorations!) for a lucky stranger to find ☺️

The wrapping paper is up on the book fairy website (link in bio) and we’d love for you to order and join in. Please allow time for your order to come from the UK!

The Book Fairies in the UK, US and Canada are all sharing copies of How to Make Your Brain Your Best Friend by Dr. Rachel Barr!

Who will be lucky enough to spot one?
This one is waiting to be discovered in Bathgate, West Lothian

About the book:

Your brain is the most remarkable thing in the known universe.

Always trying to mend itself, and always trying to protect you, it’s in a constant state of flux - adapting, reconfiguring, finding new pathways . . . And it has an astonishing capacity for recovery.

Only it doesn’t always get it right.

Rachel Barr struggled through years of devastating loss, heartache, and uncertainty until neuroscience gave her the first spark of self-belief she had felt in her adult life - and proof that, because of the brain’s near-infinite potential for neuroplastic change, it’s never too late to carve out neural pathways to form new habits, new skills, and new ways of thinking.

Whether you want to nerd-out on Neuroscientific acronyms, finally understand what’s going on in your head, or take refuge in a book that’s like a warm hug for your mind, How to Make Your Brain Your Best Friend is a delight-filled, evidence-based guide to taking better care of your brain - so it, in turn, will take better care of you.

The Book Fairies are sharing copies of It’s Probably Nothing by Naga Munchetty all around the UK today!

Who will be lucky enough to spot one?

This copy is hidden near Bathgate Primary Care Centre for one lucky reader today. Could not help myself from using the gorgeous blue sky as backdrop 😎

About the book:

Women’s healthcare is in crisis. It’s time to empower women to fight for the care they deserve.

Female health issues have been an afterthought and sidelined for too long. It’s Probably Nothing exposes the truth about how women seeking help with their health have been repeatedly failed.

Drawing on her own experience of being dismissed, undiagnosed and misdiagnosed, Naga Munchetty explores the devastating outcome of decades of ingrained medical misogyny. She hears from dozens of women and their loved ones who have sought care only to be told that their symptoms are normal or all in their head.

These testimonies highlight the consequences of not being heard, which has left so many living in pain, with chronic and life-changing conditions. This book illustrates the common problems women face and offers insights from doctors and experts on what we’re entitled to at every stage. It will arm women and their loved ones with the information and confidence to successfully advocate for the best health outcomes.

Women want to be listened to. Women want to be healthy. Women deserve to live their best lives now. It’s Probably Nothing highlights the urgent need for change.

“It’s time this stopped. Even something as simple as listening can make a world of difference.”
