Our Big Fundraising Week is coming next, and we’re asking our community to get behind West Lothian 50+ Network.

We support people aged 50 and over across West Lothian to stay active, connected and involved through local groups, activities, friendship, support and opportunities to try something new.

Every donation helps us keep our activities accessible, reach more people, and continue supporting older adults across our communities.

You can donate here:

On Tuesday 9 June, members of the Miles and Smiles walking group met at Harlaw Car Park in the Pentland Hills to complete the 9-mile Four Reservoirs circular walk. The reservoirs, built in the early 1800s to supply water to the growing City of Edinburgh, are now popular with walkers and anglers.

They followed the path towards Harbour Hill, enjoying views of the Three Bridges and across to Fife, before descending Maiden’s Cleugh towards Glencorse Reservoir, with views over Midlothian and the Borders. Reaching the water board road, they followed the reservoir and Logan Burn to their lunch stop at Loganlea Reservoir. After lunch, they headed towards The Howe and along Green Cleugh, passing recent fire damage on Black Hill, Bavelaw Castle, Threipmuir Reservoir and Harlaw Reservoir before returning to their starting point.

A cold wind, rather than rain, meant coats were frequently on and off throughout the day.

You do not need to be super fit.
You do not need to do the longest distance.
You just need to be up for taking part.

Calling West Lothian businesses, workplaces and local supporters

West Lothian 50+ Network is inviting local businesses, staff teams and community supporters to take part in Big Fundraising Week 2026, running from 15 to 21 June.

Last year, our members raised over £4,000 through simple fundraising activities. This year, we want to go even further, and we would love local workplaces, customers and supporters to help make it bigger.

Taking part can be as simple as:
☕ Coffee morning
👕 Dress-down day
🎟️ Raffle
🚶 Staff step challenge
❓ Quiz afternoon
🧁 Bake sale
💷 Collection tin
🏃 Sponsored activity
💡 Or any idea that suits your workplace

Every pound raised helps West Lothian 50+ Network keep more than 80 activity groups running across West Lothian, support over 800 members, maintain our Network Hub in Bathgate, and create more opportunities for people to stay active, connected and involved in their community.

For local businesses, Big Fundraising Week is a practical way to show your commitment to community wellbeing, staff engagement and local social impact. We will also recognise and promote participating businesses across our channels.

Be part of something that matters locally.

👏 Silence never sounded so impressive!

A huge well done to the brilliant Carolann Emms, who completed her sponsored silence last week as part of our Big Fundraising Week. As Carolann will be away during the actual week, she took on the challenge early and managed to stay quiet across her groups for two whole weeks.

Carolann and West Lothian 50+ Network would like to thank everyone who donated, supported her, and helped make the challenge such a success.

Thank you, Carolann. You showed us all just how powerful a little quiet can be! 👏

We look forward to sharing more updates about what our members, groups and local businesses get up to during Big Fundraising Week, taking place from 15th to 21st June.

Would you like to do something during the week? Get in touch and let us know.
