Ten new defibrillators have been gifted to West Lothian schools by St John Scotland.

A defibrillator is a device that gives a jolt of energy to the heart. It helps get the heart beating again when someone is in cardiac arrest and their heart has stopped.

St John Scotland works with communities to increase access to Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) and improve survival rates. Through their Community Defibrillator Scheme, they support community groups, charities, businesses and individuals to install lifesaving defibrillators in locations where they're needed most, alongside free CPR and defibrillator training for local people.

They have recently gifted and installed defibrillators at local schools.

Leader of West Lothian Council Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: “I’d like to thank St John Scotland for this generous donation.
“Their incredible generosity is providing life-saving equipment that keeps our community safe.”

The four House Captains from St Ninians RC PS, Livingston joined Atholl McInnes and Kenny McMaster from St John Scotland joined Leader of West Lothian Council Lawrence Fitzpatrick and Acting Headteacher Ann Smith to showcase their new defib.

Today marks World Heart Day (29 September). Each year on World Heart Day (29 September), the World Heart Federation brings together its global network of members to unite and raise awareness of cardiovascular disease (CVD)

This was an initiative launched by our late Chairperson, Keith Stirling approximately three years ago and St John - West Lothian is delighted to have worked with West Lothian Council to bring it to fruition.

The Order will also be providing bystander CPR Trainjng where appropriate.

Our thanks to West Lothian Council for their help and co-operation.

A great servant to the Order in West Lothian

The Grand Prior of the Order is appointed by the Sovereign Head after consultation with the Grand Council and hold’s office at the pleasure of the Sovereign Head, or until they chose to resignation.

His Royal Highness Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, is the Grand Prior of the Order and was Installed at a ceremony on 12 June 1975.

The Grand Prior has supreme direction and has administrative and executive control over the Order, its Establishments, its other subordinate organisations, and its Members.

His Royal Highness Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, personally signs Warrants of Appointment, approves the honours and awards, and oversees other such matters which require his attention, such as senior appointments and regulation documentation. The Grand Prior regularly officiates in St John ceremonial occassions, and attends meetings of Grand Council.
