Wicked Weather Watch

Wicked Weather Watch Wicked Weather Watch (WWW) is a charity that provides clarity for children and young people about climate change and global warming.

We want children to have access to unbiased information and hope to bring the important issues to life for both children and their teachers. We will be sharing the personal experiences of Arctic explorers, such as David Hempleman-Adams (pictured right), looking at the latest science and information, and asking how climate change is affecting the people and wildlife of the Arctic and the rest of the world.

We were thrilled to host our Antarctic Explorer Talk and Q&A last week, where citizen scientist and Arctic/Antarctic explorer Hilde Fålun Strøm joined us to talk about both the polar regions 🐧

Hilde shared her incredible experiences living in the Arctic wilderness for over a year, bringing the icy environment to life for pupils across the UK. We also got to hear about some science being done on the Antarctic vessel, Fridtjof Nansen.

Thank you to all the schools who participated — we're delighted to have taught over 775 pupils from 12 schools in one session!

Thank you for your support to put this event on Newport City Councill 💙

We are hosting an immersive, full-day virtual event, where we explore the question, "What is So Cool About the Arctic?", on Monday, 9th December 2024.

Pupils from across the UK will journey through the wonders of the Arctic, discovering its unique biomes, climate, and wildlife. They’ll learn about the impacts of climate change on this fragile region and explore how they can make a difference in reducing their own carbon footprint.

Open to all UK schools, the event is perfect for Upper KS2 students and offers an exciting step up for those transitioning to KS3. You can find more information here: https://wickedweatherwatch.org.uk/arctic-multi-school-events/

What a start to the week we had! ❄ 775 pupils joined us on our trip to the Arctic, with Svalbard-based explorer Hilde Fålun Strøm from Hearts in the ice. The pupils attended the talk from primary schools all across the UK. We were delighted with the demand for this session and aim to put on even more in the coming months. Thank you to all the children who participated in the event, asked so many great questions and most importantly pledged to take climate action following the session! 💙
