"I've learned that speaking up will always help others," 20-year-old Michaela recently took part in Dame Kelly Holmes Trust Get on Track with Athlete Mentor, Claire Bennett in Basildon.

Funded by Sanctuary Supported Living's Sustainable Communities programme, the Get on Track programme is designed to give young people the tools and support to take control of their future. Through weekly sessions, the young people, who are aged 16-24 and include young parents, set personal goals, reflected on daily challenges and developed practical skills in communication, teamwork and decision making.

At Dove Cott Foyer in Basildon, one of Sanctuary Supported Living sites, one of the most successful Social Action Projects was held by residents 🙌

Former Commonwealth Gold Medallist, Claire Bennett has been running Dame Kelly Holmes Trust Get on Track programme their with a group of Mum and tots' and to celebrate the culmination of the programme they held an event which had bouncy castles and activities for all ages. It also gave residents the chance to take pride in their home, spend time with neighbours and loved ones, and celebrate how far they had come.

Claire said: “This kind of social action project is so important because it helps to create a culture of trust, where residents feel connected, included and it increases confidence for all so that they go on to achieve whatever it is they want to achieve next.”

We're in Social Action Project season across our school and community programmes here at Dame Kelly Holmes Trust - and a recent project at Addey & Stanhope School saw them transform a green space into a Garden of Peace 🙌

The On Track to Achieve programme led by Athlete Mentor and former Commonwealth Gold medallist fencer Claire Bennett gives students the opportunity to choose, plan and execute a social action project that impacts their school environment or the local community. These group of students transformed an overgrown area filled with weeds and debris into a beautiful “Garden of Peace” for the whole school community to enjoy.

A big thanks to Cognizant who helped fund this programme and gave students an opportunity to have a Champion in their Corner!

Young people participating in our Get on Track for Employment progamme in Lewisham, funded by KKR and supported by Trust athlete mentor and Commonwealth gold medalist fencer, Claire Bennett, recently delivered their social action project. The group decided to create a 'Glow & Games' space in their student Hub area at the college to help encourage more women and girls to utilise this space. To date, only boys have been using the space at lunchtimes and, recognising this inequality, the group of young men and women used their social action budget to bring in items which would make the space more welcoming and inclusive for everyone.
