Our outdoor court is one of our facilities most used provisions and it's easy to see why...
A little love letter to our enclosed court -
One of our favourite corners of Hearth & Horizon is the basketball court tucked away at the back of Percy Community Centre. It may be small, but it carries a lot of intention — and a lot of joy.
Maria Montessori began her work not in forests and fields, but in busy city neighbourhoods, with children who needed safe, reliable places to move, gather, belong and grow. She understood that when children are given thoughtfully prepared environments, their bodies relax, their confidence blossoms, and their true nature can shine.
Our court is one of those “prepared environments.”
Inside it, children can:
• run as fast as their legs will carry them
• throw, kick and bounce balls without worry
• invent games and change the rules
• be loud, messy, physical and expressive
• test strength, balance and bravery
• laugh hard, fall down, and try again
The simple boundary of the court quietly holds the space — so adults don’t have to constantly interrupt play, and children don’t have to hold tension in their bodies. The result is a space that feels surprisingly free.
And when the trees begin to call us, we follow.
Just a short walk away is Victoria Park — with its wide old trunks, climbing branches, drifting leaves, soft grass and quiet corners. Those trees have become part of our rhythm: places for wandering, building dens, listening, imagining, resting and reconnecting with the wider living world.
So our days gently move between:
contained spaces that hold our bodies
and open green spaces that feed our spirits.
Both matter. Both belong.
In a city like Bath, having a protected place to gather and easy access to generous trees is something quite special.
If you haven’t explored it yet, you’re warmly invited to come and experience it — the laughter usually finds you before you see it
