Some lovely notes from National Sands on Volunteers' Week - my story as befriender and gardener, and how the Bath Sands garden at Haycombe Cemetery can provide solace for bereaved families. More volunteer stories can be found on the National Sands website. If you'd like to know more about support or about the garden please pm me on this page.
It's Volunteers' Week, and we're sharing the stories of our amazing Sands volunteers across the U.K and the impact they have in their communities 💜🧡
Frances, Bereaved mum and Sands volunteer shared with us how she found meaning out of something 'truly awful'.
Alongside Befriending, Frances is also a volunteer gardener at Bath Sands Garden of Reflection, a beautiful space given to Bath Sands by Haycombe Cemetery, for families to visit, together or individually, to reflect, remember and sit with their babies or each other 🌺
“It’s a lovely space if people don’t want to attend our usual support meetings. Being outside is an excellent tonic for grief and mental health struggles and the garden’s a positive, joyful place for Bath Sands to be associated with. It’s a place of love and beauty."
