Bath Mind

Bath Mind Your local and independent mental health charity operating across Bath & North East Somerset. Every action helps us reach more people in need.

Bath Mind was founded in 1998 by local people with lived experience of mental ill health who wanted to create compassionate, accessible support for their community. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and evolve our services in response to local needs. Many of our team members also have lived experience, giving us a deeper understanding of the challenges our community faces and the support that tr

uly helps. Each year, we connect with over 3,400 people to improve, maintain, and protect their mental health and wellbeing. Although we are affiliated with national Mind, we receive no direct funding from them. Bath Mind is an independent, self-sustaining local charity, powered by our community, for our community.

💙 Stay connected: Follow us for updates on services, resources, events and ways to look after your mental health.

💙 Support our work: Share our posts, get involved, or donate if you can.

Trigger Warning: This post mentions self-harm

Being LGBTQ+ does not cause mental ill health.

But the challenges LGBTQ+ people often face can negatively impact mental health

💙 50% of LGBTQ+ people experience depression

💙 1 in 8 LGBTQ+ people have experienced unequal treatment from healthcare staff because they are LGBTQ+

💙 Bisexual people are 2.8 times more likely to self harm compared to heterosexual people

Being LGBTQ+ can also link to other parts of who we are - such as our age, race or religion. This is called “intersectionality”, meaning some LGBTQ+ people can also experience discrimination and exclusion from more than one area of their lives.

We know everyone’s experiences of mental health are unique, and that we all deserve access to the right support 🏳️‍🌈💙

If you identify as LGBTQ+ and are struggling with your mental health, you’re not alone. We're here to help.

Behind every number is a story 📖💙

In the last year, Orchard House supported 104 people experiencing or at risk of a mental health crisis, offering safety, compassion and support when it’s needed most.

One of those people was Wende, a previous guest who has kind enough to share her experience:

“Orchard House was brilliant. It really helped… It's so safe and, you know there's no pressure or anything. I can't say it was like a holiday, because we did do a lot of… things that I found useful and I still use today.

I came away ready to try and start engaging with the world again.”

Based in Midsomer Norton, Orchard House offers 7–10 days of accommodation and 24/7 support for adults in mental health crisis. It is only available to those who have been referred to the service. During their stay, individuals are supported to rest, feel heard, and begin building coping strategies and safety plans, all within a calm, nurturing environment led by our dedicated team 💙
