Why Youth Climate Alliance?

The aim of this youth-led group is to first mobilise our generation to respond to environmental injustices and join the growing international movement to take serious action on climate breakdown and the wider ecological crisis. Some initial questions that we might aim to address:

- What can we do as a group of young people to put pressure on local government to respond to the situation? - How can we support the wider environmental movement to target central decision-makers? - What are our individual roles and where do our strengths lie? - How can we each contribute towards a net Zero Carbon Society? How does this apply to our personal lives, our schools and our communities?

I am sure most of you are aware of the critical nature of the ecological crisis, but it is worth reminding ourselves of the situation briefly. As the United Nations (along with the majority of scientists) have made clear: we have to act now to bring about drastic change within 12 years. We are the last generation to have the opportunity to avert the worst of the crisis, but climate change is already happening so the real mission is to diminish its effects. This time is a tipping point and the next few years are possibly the most crucial of our lives.
