Meet Peter Lant, founder of Walking Solves (Bath), and Big BaNES 100k partner since last year.

Over the last three years, Peter, along with his trusty dog Sid, has developed the most incredible walking community in Bath. He has brought together hundreds of people from all walks of life (sorry, we couldn't resist!) through two weekly walks (Wednesday & Saturday).

You only need to tune into Peter's socials or the Facebook group with its 3,500 members to get a sense of what's evolved here: the beautiful energy that ripples through the group, and the benefits it brings its members.

As Peter said recently:

“Yes, we go walking. Yes, we go as a group. But it’s not about how fast we go or how many miles we do. It’s not even about the walks. The walks are just great things to do. Walking is good for you. It’s good for you mentally and it’s good for you physically. But it’s more about the community.”

Peter is taking on this year's Big BaNES 100k and, in true Walking Solves style, is going the extra mile (sorry again, this is too much fun!), aiming to complete 1,500km by the end of September.

He's almost there, so if you can give him a boost, and help him raise vital funds for our charity, Off the Record Bath and North East Somerset, donate today:

Thank you, and huge thanks to Peter. Wishing you all the best for the last stretch.

In Bath & North East Somerset, hospital admissions for under-18s with mental health conditions are higher than the national average.

Over the past year, we've supported 58 young people receiving NHS hospital care for life-changing or serious health conditions impacting their mental health.

Through our Hospital Youth Work project at RUH Bath, our youth workers build trusting relationships with young people, helping them identify and access the support they need.

Big shoutout to two amazing people 💚

- Annie Legge has collaborated with us for three years, helping raise over £20,000 for our charity and Mentoring Plus.

She created The Bath 5k Map (100% of profits go to both charities), inspired the Big BaNES 100k challenge itself (£11,000 and counting 🎉), and has organised community walks throughout.

- Garry Pratt, walking leader, author and coach, has guided several of our walks and returns this Wednesday to lead the next one in Bath.

With so many young people facing complex challenges right now, having people like Annie and Garry behind us means the world 💙💙

🚶 This week’s walk: Wednesday 22 July, 5:45pm meet for 6pm start

📍 Meet at Waitrose for a 5km circular walk - everyone welcome, no need to book. Suggested donation £5, or £15 including a free map.

Visit: https://bath100kmchallenge.org/ for all the info.

The sunset walks continue!

To support this year’s Big BaNES 100k challenge, our partner Annie Legge and The Bath 5k Map crew are hosting a series of community walks at sunset in and around Bath.

The next one is taking place in Bath city centre on Wednesday 22 July, meeting at 5:45pm for a 6pm start.

Our guide this time is walking leader, creativity coach, facilitator, and author of The Creativity Factor, Garry Pratt 📸.

Garry helps people get outside to unlock fresh thinking, reset old patterns, and find new ways forward.

Whether you’re a Big BaNES 100k challenger looking to clock up some more kilometres, or you simply fancy a breath of fresh air, a little inspiration, and meeting new people, we’d love you to come along!

No need to book, but donations are encouraged. Every pound will support our charity and Mentoring Plus 💙

Recently, the Children's Commissioner reported that referrals of children to mental health services in England have reached over a million, about 1 in 10 children. That's almost double the number referred in 2018-19.

This is a crisis. We're seeing it first-hand: demand for our listening and counselling services is rising fast, and waiting lists are growing.

We're innovating to extend our reach, but we can't do this alone.

Donate today to give more young people in Bath & North East Somerset access to free mental health support:

Thank you.

If you know of a young person struggling with their mental health, please visit our website (link in the comments) to learn more about our services, or contact our team.
