The W.I. Garden Community Garden is situated in the Bath Botanical Gardens, adjace to a stunning herbaceous border. It takes a certain amount of bravery to set a community garden in such a location! I think that the Bath W.I. volunteers pull this off superbly! Perhaps, also, it shows how keen the W.I. were to convince the botanical garden to set aside a piece of the garden for volunteers to do their own thing.
The garden was established 12 years ago with support from the team at the botanical gardens, but they are now self-sustaining. There is a team of 8 volunteers within the W. membership of 60.
It is quite a small area, but it is packed with a variety of plants, both floral and vegetable There are edible seeds for passers by to perhaps take a pick. After such a dry period some of the flowers have long gone over, but seed heads have been left and will remain until the birds have had their fill.
It is a wonderful project and thank you to the W.l. team for keeping it going.
