We want to thank all our volunteers who support Bath, Keynsham & Somer Valley Foodbank. 184 in total! Our volunteers are vital to our support of families and individuals facing crisis. In the last year (April 2025-March 2026), our Foodbank centres have supported 5825 people (2614 of which are children). In the last year, our warehouse and van teams have collected and sorted nearly 84,000 kg of food. That’s a similar weight of a fully loaded 767 airplane. We are so thankful for our volunteers and want them to know how much we appreciate them!

And we don’t want to forget to thank all our corporate volunteers that give of their time to support Genesis Trust. They help sort food in our Foodbank warehouse, help at Genesis Furniture, donate essential items like food and toiletries and participate in our challenge events. We had 3 corporate participants who did the Genesis Skydive last April and 10 ran the Bath Half for us last March. Thank you to all the corporates that invest back into their community! An integral part of our client’s journey and what we do at Genesis Life Projects is targeted, focused one-to-one support work and intervention. We call this Life Thrive and it encompasses all of the various types of one-to-one meetings we have across all of Genesis Life Projects.

Our one-to-one sessions at Genesis Life Projects are person-centred based on the client’s needs and interests. Sometimes all that is needed is a one-off session; other times a block of 6 or 8 and sometimes it may be more long term. Whichever it is, Life Thrive one-to-ones is about building a trusting relationship and psychological safety. It’s where we strive to ignite hope and create motivation and engagement by identifying and working proactively on issues together.

One of our volunteers, Peter Fergie, supports our Life Thrive project by meeting regularly with Jim. He provides personal, practical and emotional assistance tailored to Jim’s specific daily needs. You can read more about Life Thrive here: https://genesistrust.org.uk/life-thrive-one-to-one/

Lakeland continues to be a valued supporter, generously donating returned items from their store in Bath, and helping to raise funds through donation tins at checkout points.

"Receiving kitchen donations is so much more than just getting pots and pans etc it’s receiving the foundation for a home. For someone stepping into a new accommodation, these donations mean the warmth of a hot meal, the start of independence and the powerful reminder that they are supported by a community that cares about their fresh start." Ann, Genesis Trust.

Thank you very much, Lakeland.

Your recent donation was delivered to The Gateway Centre, our day centre in Bath, where many of the items were put to good use supporting those who access our services. Any remaining items were exchanged for donations, helping to generate additional funds that enable us to continue our work with vulnerable and homeless people in the local community.

Through our Life Connect project, we also offer a lunch hosted by volunteers from St John the Evangelist’s Church in the city-centre. These lovely and faithful volunteers cook an amazing meal every Thursday for homeless and vulnerable people in our community. We want to say a big thank you to the church and all the volunteers who cook and serve these amazing meals. You can read more about Life Connect here:

Life Connect is our food provision for homeless and vulnerable people. But it’s more than that. There is something therapeutic in setting aside time and sitting next to someone for a meal; an excuse to chat and reflect on the day. It requires so little of us and yet for some that 30-45 minutes may be their only conversation that the day brings in an otherwise lonely or chaotic day.

We believe that the dinner table is a place for community and inclusivity, which is why we are offering these meals in a safe, warm, friendly and welcoming environment for anyone who needs company whilst they eat.

We want to thank our Life Connect breakfast volunteers who faithfully prepare and serve cooked breakfast every Wednesday morning. You can read more here about Life Connect: https://genesistrust.org.uk/food-for-homeless/

At Life Skills we offer people access to a range of health and wellbeing activities that are practical, creative and therapeutic. Our aim is to provide activities that are relevant and of interest to people, meeting them where they are at in their lives without judgement or agenda, with the hope that our wellbeing activities will be a part of their journey towards a healthier more fulfilling life.

In April we had 6 different courses including a knitting group, walks in the countryside, a gardening group, our Faith Group, a recovery group for compulsive or addictive behaviours (SMART Recovery) and the Life Course. In these we supported 22 different guests.

Our volunteers support our clients at our Life Skills courses. We also have volunteers who faithfully run our knitting group every week. You can read more about Life Skills here: https://genesistrust.org.uk/wellbeing-activities/

Lifeline is our day centre providing crisis support to help people who are homeless, vulnerably housed or experiencing complex challenges such as financial insecurity, mental ill-health and substance misuse. We can provide food, clothing, small household items, access to a shower and laundry facilities, phones and IT and much more.

Last April we had 479 total visits to Lifeline by 129 different guests. This is a 12% increase from April 2025. Our volunteers do several things at Lifeline. They prepare food and hot drinks for guests. Help sort out food and clothes donations. They also provide companionship many times chatting with our guests over a board game. Our volunteers are an integral part to the compassionate community we provide at our day centre. Thank you to all our Lifeline volunteers! This week, 1-7 June, is Volunteers’ Week. It’s an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers. We will do a series of posts this week thanking our volunteers and giving you some information about our Genesis projects.

Our volunteers are vital to our work supporting homeless and vulnerable people from crisis to independence. They support us in so many ways. They assist staff members and our clients during our Life Skills’ activities. They prepare and serve food and hot drinks at our Life Connect meals. They sort clothes and food donations and prepare food for our Lifeline guests. They collect food donations from supermarkets. Give one-to-one support to our clients. Help with admin. Help run our Genesis Boules teams.
So we want to give a massive thank you to all our volunteers! You can read more here about what Genesis does: https://genesistrust.org.uk/
