Carers Week officially came to a close yesterday, and we want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has shared our posts, supported our work, and helped shine a light on unpaid carers.

Your support helps us keep carers visible, valued, and better connected to the help they need. But the conversation doesn’t end here.

Please continue to stand with carers by sharing our message, helping to build more carer-friendly communities, exploring our services, and—if you’re able—considering a donation to support our work.

Together, we can make sure carers are recognised and supported every week of the year.

Over the week we have celebrated unpaid carers whilst encouraging our local community to recognise and appreciate all that they do. Now it's your turn to take action!

Your donation can enable carers to re-join life, take a break, and find the support they need to keep going.

Give today, make a big difference tomorrow.

Why support us?

Currently we support over 6,000 adult carers and over 1,000 young carers, some as young as five. These unpaid carers often put their life on hold to provide care and support to their family and friends when they need is most. Most of us will become a carer for a friend or family member at some point in our lives.

What does our support mean?

It enables carers to find connection in a local caring community, to be amongst others who understand the challenges and the benefits to looking after loved ones. It provides access to timely support which often empowers families to avert crisis.

Did you catch this last night? Charlotte, who has provided various levels of care to family members and ongoing care for her son, is an inspiring advocate, valuable member of Carers' Voice and amazing volunteer supporting young carer activities.

In this radio interview, she talks about her caring journey and how the support she has received from The Carers' Centre has helped her re-join life.

Thank you Bath Sound for welcoming us on board your show and supporting unpaid carers during

Catch our interview with Sophie and Charlotte, who join us from BANES Carers Centre on Bath Sound today🎙️

We sat down with the incredible Charlotte, who realised she was an unpaid carer for three of her relatives when she was approaching crisis, and Sophie, Communications manager at BANES Carers Centre. In this interview for Carers' Week, presenter Genevieve Tomes spoke to Charlotte and Sophie about all things care - from what makes an unpaid carer, to the support carers need to avert reaching 'crisis point'.

Most of us will know a carer – someone who is helping to look after someone they love. This might be round-the-clock care or just ad-hoc help, like doing some shopping or taking someone to an appointment. In fact most of us will care, or be cared for, at some time in our lives. But many carers get on with caring quietly, often invisibly, despite needing support themselves.

Carers Week highlights the need to create Carer Friendly Communities, in all areas of our lives. Together with Carers' Voice, we have created a toolkit for every member of our community to consider when hosting an event, a support session, or an informal gathering, to make sure these are inclusive and welcoming.

Read our 'Top Tips' over on our website and make sure your community is carer friendly: https://banescarerscentre.org.uk/for-professionals/top-tips-for-creating-carer-friendly-communities/

If transport worries prevent you from taking part in our activities, please let us know. We want everyone to feel included.

This morning, Sarah, from The Carers' Centre and Sofia, from SWAN, met to discuss an exciting joint venture to celebrate the volunteers that give their time to support both these vital services.

SWAN transports a large number of passengers to the centre and to various activities across BANES organised by BCC, making it possible for carers to access respite, enjoy fun activities, improve their wellbeing and mental health, and meet with like-minded people who have shared experience of caring.

If you're a carer, or know someone that is that needs support, or simply time to be themselves, make sure you get in touch:

Call the Freephone Support Line: 0800 0388 885 (Mon - Fri 9am - 1pm), or visit their website: www.banescarerscentre.org.uk

Charlotte has navigated a varied caring journey. Her role has involved caring for poorly relatives as they got older, supporting loved ones with dementia, and taking extra care of her son, who has a diagnosis of autism and ADHD.

Charlotte is heavily involved with The Carers' Centre, enjoying a variety of free wellbeing activities, engaging in our participation group Carers' Voice, and encourages anyone with a caring role to reach out and get involved in this welcoming community, which helps you to realise you are not alone 💙

💙 This Carers Week, we're raising the flag for unpaid carers and encouraging everyone to help create communities where carers feel recognised, valued and supported.

This year's theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, is something we're passionate about. We're proud of the supportive community we've built, but we know there's always more we can do to spread that good practice even further.

Throughout the week, we'll be sharing stories from carers in our community, highlighting simple ways you can make a difference, and inviting you to show your support by joining our dedicated community of supporters.

Together, we can build places where carers don't just cope — they feel seen, appreciated and connected.
