His Royal Highness Fon Angafor Mombe-oh-III of Bambui Visits Manchester City Football Club
On Sunday, 8 June 2025, the royal delegation from Bambui, currently on tour in the UK, accompanied by one of the newly appointed Bambui UK quarterheads, Tanteh Gaston Fornimoh Bezeboh, made a significant visit to Manchester, England. His Royal Highness Fon Angafor Mombo-oh-III, the Paramount Fon of Bambui, accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Prudence Angafor, conducted a courtesy call at Manchester City Football Club. This visit by the royal couple was a diplomatic mission that also represented a momentous occasion in His Royal Highness’s enduring passion for football.
His Royal Highness Fon Angafor Mombo-oh III, a devoted supporter of Manchester City, has consistently shown a profound passion for football. He played the game during his youth with the esteemed Bamako Sportive of Mandjembang-Bambui. His enthusiasm for the sport not only shaped his formative years but also inspired his dedication to advancing football in Bambui. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, his deep affection for the game led to the establishment of a second-division football team in Tubah, creating opportunities for young players to develop and showcase their talents in the region.
Beyond the pitch, HRH Fon Angafor has continuously leveraged football as a tool for unity and peace, particularly in Tubah subdivision, which, like most towns in the region, has endured nearly nine years of the ongoing Anglophone crisis. His unwavering belief in football’s capacity to bring communities together has motivated him to explore various ways to use the sport as a catalyst for dialogue, peace, and reconciliation.
A testament to this vision is the Bambui Fon's Peace and Unity Cup, an annual football competition generously sponsored by His Royal Highness and some Bambui elites at home and in the diaspora for many years. This tournament, which takes place each summer, assembles exceptional football talent from within Bambui, Tubah and beyond, fostering not only sporting excellence but also promoting harmony among communities. The competition has produced numerous remarkable players, many of whom have advanced to participate in Cameroon’s first division leagues and even represent the national team at both junior and senior levels.
During his visit to the stadium of Manchester City, His Royal Highness Fon Angafor Mombo-oh III and Queen Prudence were received with warmth and granted an exclusive tour of the facility. The pinnacle of the visit was their engaging dialogue with Pep Guardiola, the esteemed manager of Manchester City and one of the most distinguished football tacticians of our time. HRH and their host exchanged insights regarding the transformative power of football, with Guardiola praising His Royal Highness’s commitment to utilising the sport as a symbol of unity and encouraging him to persist in his aspiration of promoting peace and reconciliation in Bambui, Tubah, as well as the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon.
As HRH Fon Angafor, Queen Prudence and the royal delegation continue their tour of the UK, HRH has been assured by one of the greatest authorities in the game that his mission to use football as a tool for positive change is not an illusion.
The visit to Manchester City highlights HRH’s commitment to the sport and illustrates the potential of football to unite people and motivate future generations of players and peaceful communities.
