On wednesday 22nd April 2026 we are delighted to welcome Rob Heard MBE as our guest speaker, presenting an engaging and highly relevant talk titled “Driving Safely for Longer
He's had a remarkable career spanning over 30 years in the Police Force, has a wealth of experience, insight, and real-life stories. His talk will take us through his fascinating work in Roads Policing, Royalty Protection and VIP security (including the Queen), policing the Olympics, and leading major investigations as a Senior Investigation Officer.
Since retiring from the Police, Rob has become a leading voice in road safety for older drivers. As the founder and Chair of the Older Drivers Forum, he is passionate about helping people stay confident, informed, and safe on the road for as long as possible. He will explain how the Forum supports drivers, share practical advice, and discuss vision, driving, and the latest thinking in road safety.
Rob will also touch on upcoming changes in the new Road Safety Strategy and what these could mean for older drivers in the years ahead and how we in IAM RoadSmart can assist.
A former Roads Policing Sergeant responsible for Road Safety across Hampshire and Thames Valley Police, Rob has received numerous national awards for his outstanding contribution to road safety. In recognition of this work, he was awarded an MBE in the 2025 New Year Honours. He now works as a Road Safety Consultant and Driver Awareness Trainer.
