Group Meeting September 23rd Newnham Clubroom 7.30pm.

If you love riding and driving... If you love interesting and challenging roads with stunning scenery the Scotland's NC500 should be on your bucket list.
The "North Coast 500" is 516 miles of some of the dramatic coastal scenery and gentle white sandy beaches, offering the chance to experience local culture and hospitality...it is often regarded as the ultimate road trip.
Our speaker, Alasdair wanted to do this trip on his motorbike.. but circumstances caused plans to change and the bike got sold. So using their car was the only way for Alasdair and his wife Fiona to do the awesome road trip round Britain's largest wilderness!! Come and listen to the story of their trip... Then plan your own!!

In preparation for our upcoming Annual General Meeting in July, we would like to ask our members if there is someone who would like to undertake a role organising our friendly Group to consider joining our Committee ...

In particular, at this time we are hoping to find someone to act as our Treasurer as our long-standing incumbent is stepping down. This is a very important role within our Group, one without which we couldn't function, but isn't necessarily as daunting as the title suggests; a bit of information about the role follows.

You don't need to be an accountant to take on the role of Treasurer for our group. The treasurer's role includes just keeping records of all Income received, mainly membership renewals, and Expenditure paid out, predominantly room hire costs and paying any speaker fees.

Currently all records are recorded onto an Excel spreadsheet which is easy to maintain and update. Also, as our group is a registered Charity, annually a Gift Aid claim is submitted by the Treasurer.

The current Treasure will be happy to make himself available to give help and advice about the role where needed.

Upon taking on the Treasurer's role you would join our friendly Committee members who meet on a monthly basis at Newnham clubroom.

If you would like any further information or have any questions, and especially if you feel you would like to join us, please don't hesitate to get in touch.”_

Well the Festival of Transport was incredibly well attended. Well done Gilly and Don for manning the stand all day... and braving the weather. Some good contacts made and it would have been good to see more of the local group members.

Next date for the diary is May 27th. And we are very fortunate to welcome the Air Ambulance . And we'll look forward to hearing about their move to a more central base.

On wednesday 22nd April 2026 we are delighted to welcome Rob Heard MBE as our guest speaker, presenting an engaging and highly relevant talk titled “Driving Safely for Longer
He's had a remarkable career spanning over 30 years in the Police Force, has a wealth of experience, insight, and real-life stories. His talk will take us through his fascinating work in Roads Policing, Royalty Protection and VIP security (including the Queen), policing the Olympics, and leading major investigations as a Senior Investigation Officer.

Since retiring from the Police, Rob has become a leading voice in road safety for older drivers. As the founder and Chair of the Older Drivers Forum, he is passionate about helping people stay confident, informed, and safe on the road for as long as possible. He will explain how the Forum supports drivers, share practical advice, and discuss vision, driving, and the latest thinking in road safety.

Rob will also touch on upcoming changes in the new Road Safety Strategy and what these could mean for older drivers in the years ahead and how we in IAM RoadSmart can assist.

A former Roads Policing Sergeant responsible for Road Safety across Hampshire and Thames Valley Police, Rob has received numerous national awards for his outstanding contribution to road safety. In recognition of this work, he was awarded an MBE in the 2025 New Year Honours. He now works as a Road Safety Consultant and Driver Awareness Trainer.
