Every year, UK consumers lose over £70bn to poor standards and rogue traders.

The Approved Code Scheme exists to change that. By holding businesses to higher standards, ensuring independent Chartered Trading Standards Institute audits, and guaranteeing consumers access to free dispute resolution, the scheme is helping build markets that people can actually trust.

The Approved Code Scheme aims to raise standards, protect consumers and support economic growth. We have already covered £281bn of consumer spend, £2M recovered for consumers, and have 40,000+ businesses committed to the scheme.

Buying a new car is one of the biggest purchases most of us will ever make. But between pricing, contracts, and the uncertainty of what happens if something goes wrong, there's a lot to think about. Especially when buying a used car.

An Approved Code Scheme business takes some of that pressure away.

Every ACS business goes through a rigorous vetting process and is audited by Chartered Trading Standards Practitioners to ensure standards are being met. And if something does go wrong and can't be resolved directly, you have access to free, independent dispute resolution.

The British Healthcare Trades Association has been championing better healthcare since 1917.

Today, it represents over 400 companies and 18,500 people across 12 sectors: supplying £3.7bn worth of essential products and services to the NHS, and helping consumers directly with the equipment and products that support independent living.

The British Healthcare Trades Association is one of the Code Sponsors operating under the Approved Code Scheme. This means that their Code of Practice is independently audited by CTSI, ensuring the standards its member businesses are held to remain robust, meaningful and consumer-focused.

This is a Code Sponsor committed to better outcomes for businesses and consumers alike, and exactly the kind of organisation the Approved Code Scheme is proud to work with.

Not all businesses are equal. Approved Code Scheme businesses go above and beyond.

They adhere to a rigorous vetting process, commit to higher levels of consumer service, and provide a level of consumer protection that goes beyond what the law requires.

The ACS logo instantly identifies a business as a member of a respected trade body — audited by Chartered Trading Standards Practitioners and monitored by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute.

Before the Consumer Code for Home Builders was introduced, fewer than half of new home buyers were satisfied with their experience. Today, nearly 90% of buyers covered by the Consumer Code for Home Builders (CCHB) would recommend their builder. That is what a sector-led Code of Practice can do, this is what the Approved Code Scheme does.

The Consumer Code for Home Builders is an Approved Code, which means it is independently audited by Chartered Trading Standards Practitioners and its members are committed to clear standards from the moment you reserve a property, right through to two years after you get the keys.

If something goes wrong and can't be resolved directly, free independent dispute resolution is available.

Responsible builders are choosing to be held to a higher standard. That is how trusted markets are built.
