Barton Area Food Bank Barton Area Food Bank is a Registered Charity. We operate from Barton Salvation Army Community Centre,
114 Tofts Road Barton upon Humber DN18 5NG.

Run by volunteers for the benefit of those in need of short term emergency supplies to feed themselves and their families, and essential items like toiletries and cleaning products. OPENING HOURS:

Tuesday and Friday ONLY.
2pm to 3.30pm. NEW REFERRALS PLEASE COME AFTER 2.30PM ON YOUR FIRST VISIT

Run by volunteers for the benefit of those in need of short term emergency supplies to feed themselves and their families, and essential items like toiletries and cleaning products. Funded by donations from local shops, Churches, businesses, schools and individuals. Financial donations are also extremely welcome. Gift Aid is available which increases your donation to the Food Bank with no further cost to you if you are a UK taxpayer. Enquiries to the email address below. 🌾 A HUGE THANK YOU TO BOWMANDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL! 🌾

Barton Area Food Bank would like to say a massive thank you to all the children, parents and staff of Bowmandale Primary School for their wonderful Harvest Festival donation of an incredible 156.25kg of food and essential items! 💚👏

We were especially delighted that the children, supervised by their parents, came along to help our volunteers transport, unload and shelve the donated items. 📦🙌 It was fantastic to see the children getting involved, learning about helping others and making such a positive difference in our community.

Every single item donated will help us support local individuals and families who are facing difficult times, and we are so grateful for the kindness, generosity and effort shown by everyone involved.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the whole Bowmandale Primary School community for supporting Barton Area Food Bank and helping us make a difference to those who need it most. ❤️

This week we’ve supported 50 families and individuals with short-term food supplies. 🥫❤️

A huge THANK YOU to Pipers Crisps for their kind donation of crisps this week! 🥔👏 We really appreciate your generosity and the difference it will make to the people we support. Thank you to Ellie and Paul at Pipers for helping with the loading.

And thank you to everyone who continues to donate, volunteer and support our food bank. Your kindness helps us be there for local people when they need us most. 💚

Not only are our volunteers awesome people, but one is also a poet!
We love this poem written by Sophia one of those volunteers. It sums up life at the food bank perfectly.

A poem for today…

In Barton town where the pantries are grand,
There’s a squad of legends, the best in the land.
With boxes and boxes - a mountain of tins,
They’re the lords of the shelf where the magic begins.
They tackle the pasta, they wrangle the peas,
Sorting the boxes with the greatest of ease.
It’s like Tetris on steroids, a canned-food ballet,
While they chat about weather and save the whole day.
If a rogue bag of rice tries to make a grand break,
They catch it mid-air—for goodness sake!
They’ve got biceps of steel from the boxes they lift,
And their kindness is truly a Barton-sized gift.
With a smile for the weary and a joke for the line,
They make sure that everyone’s doing just fine.
So here’s to the helpers, the Food Bank brigade,
Who work like machines, but with humour displayed!

CUSTARD!!!!!

We have received reports of an intermittent Custard Shortage in Barton. 😫

It is not clear what the underlying cause is; BAFB hope we aren’t contributing to this issue, though we have also noticed low stock levels this week.

Happily, our clients have received usual levels in their boxes this week and next week’s prepared boxes are complete as well. 😄

Despite a beautiful clear sky and perfect weather, our brave volunteer Helen was unable to carry out her wing walk and loop the loop last Sunday.
You may remember that she was doing this in aid of The Barton Area Food Bank and Harbour Place in Grimsby. Unfortunately at the last minute the plane failed its safety checks and her endeavour is now postponed until May 2027. ✈️
Helen thanks everyone who has donated so far and the money will be kept safe until she carries out the walk next year.

Here at BAFB we regularly report how many households we support in our sessions.

To demonstrate what that looks like in terms of “stock” these are some photos of our warehouse shelves this morning.

Regular followers will remember it’s about one month since we received a massive joint donation from Baysgarth School and Forest Products Ltd, of HALF A TONNE of stock.

Since then we have undertaken some interim shops. We shop 1-3 times a week at two of our local supermarkets in addition to receiving donations from a number of,her of businesses and individuals.

There’s no “typical “ shop, today’s was fairly modest and cost BAFB £150.

We hope this brings to life how important your ongoing donations are to all our clients.

Please may we have your empty washing up liquid bottles? Preferably the smaller ones.

We are in short term need of empty washing up bottles, so if you have any empties between now and 31 August, please either pop them in one of our donation boxes or drop off at the Salvation Army Community Church on Tofts Road on Tuesday or Friday afternoons when we run our sessions.
