Far Ings National Nature Reserve Far Ings is on the south bank of the Humber Estuary, a major east-west flyway for migrating birds In spring and autumn you can see migration in action.

Far Ings is situated on the south bank of the Humber Estuary, a major east-west flyway for migrating birds. The sight and sound of a skein of geese flying over is spectacular. The pits and reedbeds at Far Ings and along the Humber bank are a legacy of the tile and cement industry which flourished between 1850 and 1959. Thanks to pioneering management by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, the reserve is now rich in wildlife and one of the UK strongholds for bittern. Pipits, finches, swallows, martins, swifts, larks, starlings, waders and wildfowl move along the estuary. In late summer the reedbeds are important hirundine roosts. Autumn and winter reward the observer on the Humber bank with sightings of redshank, wigeon, black-tailed godwit, skeins of pink-footed geese and many more species. Among the wildfowl which spend the winter months on the pits within the reserve, look for the diminutive teal.

It's half term!!

Why not pop down to Far Ings NNR and see if you can complete our new Folklore Trail? Learn about the historical stories of Lincolnshire whilst being surrounded by nature!

Pop into the Visitor Centre for a hot drink or snack and get yourself a leaflet this half term - open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm. (Or out of hours you can grab a leaflet from the stand by the gate!)

You may be wondering why you can see smoke across the reserve - don't worry, it's just our reserve team!

Controlled burning on winter reedbeds is a specialized conservation tool used to clear dead thatch, stop invasive species, and stimulate fresh spring growth for the wildlife that calls Far Ings their home.

No need to call the fire brigade - our team of staff and volunteers are specially trained for this type of prescribed burn.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, LWT reserve warden Kev will no longer be speaking at the LWT Barton Area Group tomorrow night.

Instead, local photographer Graham Catley will be delivering a fascinating presentation, as seen in the June issue of the Birdguides magazine, about his 'life-changing' photographic adventure to the Norwegian archipelago.

As always, you do not need to be a member to join the talks that take place at Far Ings NNR and parking is FREE!

Join the group at 7.30pm at Far Ings Visitor Centre, Far Ings National Nature Reserve, DN18 5RG.

Talks are free. No booking required.

Refreshments will be served.

Join the Barton LWT Barton Area Group for another fascinating FREE talk given by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Reserve Warden, Kevin James, this Wednesday (21st October) from 7.30pm at Far Ings Visitor Centre, Far Ings National Nature Reserve, DN18 5RG with free parking.

Talks are free. No booking required. You do not need to be a member to join our activities, all welcome!

Kev's talk will cover the biology, ecology, and habitat requirements that adders need. He will also look at why their population has plummeted to the extent that 90% of the UK Adder population will become extinct in the next 10 years.
