MY MOTHER’S BLANKET — 2026
An incomplete LOVE.

Handmade paper and ink
Shahida Ahmed 2026 (c)

Built from handmade paper tubes printed with love poetry, each piece holds a stage of the comfort, memories and emotions we carry from our mothers throughout our lives.

A mother’s love begins before we enter the world — in her womb — and stays with us through every stage of life, until our last day.

The word remains incomplete because that love is never truly finished. It continues, surrounds us and becomes part of who we are. Like a blanket we carry for a lifetime.

LOVE, NATURALLY | حب بالفطرة

Love sits at the centre.
Around it, abstract geometry unfolds in imperfect shapes — because love itself is not perfect. It shifts, grows, overlaps and finds its own balance.
The natural blues and greens reflect love as something instinctive and organic — something we feel before we understand.

Imperfect. Natural. Complete.

From my HUBB LOVE | حب series.

HUBB LOVE 2026

SHAHIDA AHMED ALIAS SHE

celebrates love as a universal language that transcends borders and cultures. British artist Shahida Ahmed draws inspiration from Arabic language, calligraphy and visual heritage to explore themes of love, peace and unity.

Through colour, form, texture and light, the works create a dialogue between Arabic culture and contemporary British art.

At its heart, HUBB carries a simple message:

Love connects us.

Love unites us.

Love is a language we all understand.

HUBB LOVE
A meeting point.
A connection.
A place where separate things become part of something larger.

I’m excited to share my new body of work, HUBB — an exhibition exploring connection, belonging, memory and our shared human experience.

Through painting, calligraphy, colour, repetition and installation, the works move between the deeply personal and the universal. Words and forms appear, disappear and re-emerge; individual marks gather into larger structures, reflecting the way our lives, histories and experiences continually intersect.
At the heart of HUB is a simple question: what connects us?
From the quiet intimacy of memory to the rhythm of a Common Pulse, this exhibition brings together works that have developed through many different processes, but ultimately return to one idea — that beneath our differences, there are threads that bind us.
I’m looking forward to finally bringing them together in one space.
