♻️👕 CLOTHES SWAP – 15TH JUNE AT 9AM 👕♻️

On Monday 15th June at 9am, we will be holding a Clothes Swap at Ormsgill Community Centre.

If you’re having a clear out, please think of us! We would be grateful for donations of clean, good-quality clothing. Items can be dropped off at the centre before the event.

A clothes swap is a great way to refresh your wardrobe without spending a penny, while also helping to protect our planet. Every year, millions of items of clothing end up in landfill. By reusing and recycling clothes, we can reduce waste, save resources, and give perfectly good items a second life.

Join us in making fashion more sustainable, supporting our community, and helping the environment one outfit at a time.

🌟 Celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2026 🌟

This Volunteers’ Week, Ormsgill Stronger Together would like to say a huge THANK YOU to every single volunteer who gives their time, energy, skills and kindness to support our community.

Whether you’re helping at our youth club, warm hub, community fridge, cooking sessions, wellbeing activities, community garden, fundraising events, or behind the scenes, your contribution makes a real difference every day.

Because of our volunteers, we are able to provide support, create opportunities, reduce isolation, and bring people together. Your dedication helps make Ormsgill a stronger, kinder and more connected place to live.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and we couldn’t achieve what we do without you.

Community Update

We have had a number of people message us kindly offering to repair the roof or help cover the cost of the damage. We are truly grateful for the support, generosity, and concern shown by our community during this difficult time.

We would like to reassure everyone that the roof has now been repaired. We want to say a huge thank you to the council for their quick response and for ensuring the issue was dealt with promptly.

Unfortunately, while the roof has been fixed, the damage caused inside the building is a different matter. The leak has damaged a number of our resources, equipment, and belongings, and sadly some of these items have been lost. This is incredibly upsetting for us, as many of these resources were used regularly by the young people who attend our sessions.

We have also been provided with two names of individuals believed to be responsible for the vandalism. This information will be passed on to the police so that they can investigate the matter further.

If anyone witnesses any suspicious activity around the building in the future or has any additional information, please contact our page as soon as possible. Your support helps us protect this valuable community space for everyone.

Thank you again to everyone who has reached out, offered help, and supported us during this difficult time. Your kindness and encouragement mean a great deal to us, and we are determined to move forward and rebuild what has been lost.🩵💚🩷❤️🧡

🍳 This Week’s Cooking Session 🍳

This week’s cooking session was our last one until September, and what a fantastic few months it has been!

We have thoroughly enjoyed cooking together each week and hope everyone who joined us has enjoyed it just as much. Over the course of the sessions, we’ve created some delicious meals and learned lots of new skills along the way.
Family Hubs in Barrow-in-Furness
Some of the tasty dishes we’ve made include corned beef hash, sticky honey pork, chicken tikka curry, chilli con carne, and many more. This week, we finished on a high by cooking omelettes in two different ways, giving everyone the chance to practise different techniques and get creative with their fillings.

As a special bonus, everyone who attended the course received a slow cooker to take home. We hope this will help participants continue developing their cooking skills, try out new recipes, and enjoy preparing delicious home-cooked meals for themselves and their families.

A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part, supported one another, and helped make these sessions so enjoyable. It’s been wonderful to see confidence grow in the kitchen, friendships develop, and to share so many great meals together.

We wish everyone a wonderful summer and look forward to welcoming you back in September for more cooking, learning, and delicious food!

👩‍🍳🍴 See you in September! 🍴👨‍🍳

Thank you to the People Helping People fund, Hubbub and Ormsgill Primary School

Important Notice

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the cancellation of Chill Hub and Youth Club until further notice.

Unfortunately, our building has been vandalised, with damage to the roof causing a significant leak. As a result, much of our equipment, resources, and belongings have been damaged. We are heartbroken by this situation and deeply disappointed, especially knowing how much these sessions mean to the young people and families who attend each week.

Our priority now is to assess the damage, make the building safe, and begin the necessary repairs so that we can reopen as soon as possible. We know this news will be upsetting, and we share that disappointment. Chill Hub and Youth Club are important parts of our community, and having to cancel our sessions, even temporarily, is something we never wanted to do.

If anyone saw anything suspicious, witnessed the vandalism, or has any information that could help us understand what happened, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be helpful.

We would like to thank everyone for their understanding, patience, and continued support during this difficult time. We will keep you updated on the situation and let you know as soon as we have more information about when activities can resume.

Thank you for standing by us while we work to repair the damage and get back to providing a safe and welcoming space for our young people.
