We were treated this week to a masterclass in the world of digital photographic and marketing capabilities by our new ‘Friend of Rotary’ Alex Taylor, who has far more knowledge and experience in such matters than the average Rotary Club of Furness member.
As his presentation burst into life, Alex demonstrated his work in local community radio and his current and proposed graphics exhibitions in Barrow and beyond, and how he can bring our club graphics up to date. He also informed the club of his social media connections and links with the community, all of which he can utilise for promoting Rotary in general but also the TDF for 2027.

The 2026 Tour de Furness charity cycle ride presentations took place on Wednesday 7th October in the "Crossbar"at Barrow AFC football ground

The presentations were hosted by the Tour de Furness organisers, the Rotary club of Furness, at this new venue which saw awards being given to those individuals and teams who raised the most money for charity

This year’s cycle ride started and finished at the new home of the event, Furness Academy in Barrow, on June 28th, and almost 120 riders pedalled around one of the four courses of either 14 miles, 28 miles, 53 miles or 74 miles.

At the presentations, trophies were awarded in three categories, individual juniors under 16, individual seniors over 16, and the team winners who were presented with the coveted Bill Bartlett trophy.

As always, the main recipient of the charitable funding from the cycle ride is St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston and it gave the event organisers great pleasure to donate £7,000 to the charity as a result of the ride.
After the awards, 70 or so guests enjoyed a buffet and a visual demonstration of the flexibility of Barrow AFC floodlights. The hosts thanked everyone including sponsors, supporters and riders involved, at any level, in the cycle ride and the presentations.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and rider fund raisers we were able to donate £7000.00 to St Mary's Hospice.

Our speaker this week (Wednesday 16th September) was Vincent Linnane, a retired Manchester Police Dog handler for 17 years who told us about the training regime which both handlers and dogs go through before they become and official unit. Vincent was thanked for his talk by Rotarian Peter While.
