Our friends at Raise: Cumbria Community Forest 🌳 are hosting a series of sessions as part of their Volunteer Community Forester Programme across Cumbria this Summer.

These sessions are great for anyone interested in gaining experience outdoors, learning more about forestry and nature recovery, or building confidence and green skills in a neuro-affirming environment.

All volunteer sessions are led by Raise community foresters and provide opportunities to learn about woodland creation, forestry skills, ecology, and practical green job skills.

The programme has been designed to be neuro-affirming and welcoming to people with different communication styles, confidence levels and support needs. We send detailed information out before each session, keep group sizes small, and run the days flexibly to allow plenty of time for conversation, questions and learning at a comfortable pace.

Last Friday we had loving time hosting Sensing Melodies at the Laurel and Hardy Museum. A big thank you to everyone who came along to support and to all our amazing performers.

We've been hosting Sensing Melodies for the past 10 years and it wouldn't be possible without the help, support, and generosity of so many different people and places.

We'd like to thank all of our performers for taking to the stage. These included: Jack Williams, Caitlin Doyle, Robbie Hogg, Students from Beaumont College, Dave Mitchell, Harrison Holmes, Rachael Ensoll, Mollie Harper, Chris Bland.

We'd also like to thank the Laurel & Hardy Museum for welcoming us with open arms to host our annual concert with them. A big thank you also to Dave Mitchell & Robbie Hogg for Compering and to Sarah Carter for organising the raffle on the night.

We had some great prizes up for grabs in the raffle thanks for the generosity of various local businesses including: Kin Toffee Vodka, Holiday Inn Express Barrow-in-Furness, Nicole Vergel de Dios, Seaside Riding School, Food (Barrow), Subs & Spuds, Magi Miteva of Brows and Company, Robinsons Electric Grange, Bespoke Lounge - Lashed by Stace, Chris Bland Personal Trainer, Ben Phizacklea at FAB gym, Daniel Carter, R&T Music, Eyelast Envy Aesthetics, and Studio Lou at Megaesthetics.

Earlier this week we attended the first ever Furness Autism Expo at The Bridge on Portland Walk in Barrow-in-Furness - and what a day it was! 🤩💙⭐

Our team have been part of the steering group organising the expo for the past year and it was a pleasure and a joy to see so all our hard work pay off!

During the expo we got the chance to catch up and meet lots of organisations all working to support autistic people in the local area.

One of our directors, Jemma Swales, delivered a talk about Burnout & Shutdown in Adolescence during the expo - a key part of our current training offering and such an important subject area for parents/carers and autistic people themselves to learn more about.

Caleb Staples, another member of our team was also involved with various talks on the day including:
- Delivering a keynote speech alongside fellow FAE Directors David Willis & Mai Harrison
- An 'In Conversation' session with Keith Glasgow about childhood and adulthood diagnosis
- Chaired the Autism & Creativity panel featuring Eloise Vernon-Brown (Moon's Magic Shop), Jorgie Sam Wilson - Music, and filmmaker Sophie Broadgate.

Calling all LEGO fans!

We are thinking of starting some autism-friendly LEGO groups and want to see who would be interested.

If you have any LEGO you’d be willing to donate, whether it’s a bucket of random bricks or a half-finished set, it will all be put to fantastic use!

It’ll be a relaxed, supportive space to build and chat. If this sounds like something for you, or if you'd be interested in donating bricks, please drop an email to [email protected].
