Furness Homeless Support Group

Furness Homeless Support Group A local charity providing supported accommodation to homeless vulnerable adults.

We are a registered local charity, offering supported accommodation to single homeless people. We have existed since 1989, originally as simply a Christmas Shelter, but we continue to expand. Our current facilities include 9 single rooms of supported accommodation, a newly re-furbished 1 bed ground floor flat, a day centre (open Monday-Friday for drop in and midday meals), a Charity Shop and of course we continue to run our Christmas Shelter!

It’s National Volunteers Week! Today we celebrated our volunteers by having an afternoon get together for those that were able to join us.
Whether it’s helping out in our charity shop, giving up a Christmas Day to help out out in our day centre, cooking in our kitchen each week, or serving on our Management Board, they are all making an extraordinary difference!

So THANK YOU to each and every one of our volunteers! You give your time, your energy, your skills, your patience… and sometimes your sanity!
Our charity was built by volunteers, so they are our very foundation and we simply couldn’t exist without them! 🌟👏🏻🌟👏🏻🌟👏🏻🌟👏🏻🌟👏🏻

✨✨✨ JOB VACANCY!! ✨✨✨
Furness Homeless Support Group (FHSG) is looking for bank staff/relief workers to cover staff holidays/sickness, with scope for 14-16 regular hours every other weekend. Shifts to cover will mainly include evenings, weekends, and sleepovers and will involve lone working (with support only a phone call away when needed!).
We run 14 units of supported accommodation and you will be working alongside residents in our shared supported accommodation and dispersed properties to ensure they receive practical and emotional support. This would include helping residents to develop routines and household skills, assisting them to link in with other services, or simply a chat over a coffee.
You don’t necessarily need to currently have a relevant qualification, but you do need a willingness to learn, the ability to support and enable others, enthusiasm, a proactive nature, be trustworthy and friendly yet able to maintain professional boundaries, and have empathy and compassion for those who have been through some rough times.
Our residents could have experienced anything from mental health issues, learning difficulties, abuse, debt, recovering from addiction etc.
We are a small team but we are staffed 24-7. Our rota continues throughout the year, including Christmas, so please bear that in mind if you apply! Any offer of employment will be conditional on the completion of an enhanced DBS check.
If you think this is something you may be interested in, please email us at [email protected] to request an application pack.

If you’re looking for something to do over the Easter holidays why not pop along to Ford Park, Ulverston to have a look around the Scarecrow Festival. Our staff and residents worked hard to make our very own friendly faced Wurzel come to life! - ‘There’s no place like Furness HOMEless Support Group. See what we did there?! 😬.
All the scarecrows look brilliant and there’s charity buckets around so you can pop in a donation if you feel so inclined! (I think our QR code is ever so slightly rain damaged 😐).

Did you know there are easy ways you can donate to us, if you so wish!? You can even do it while you shop online!
As well as Just Giving, we are now part of Give as you Live. On this platform you can make a one off donation, set up a regular monthly donation, or if you shop through the site the retailer will make a donation without you spending a penny extra! (Thousands of retailers are involved such as Tesco, M&S, Argos, Ebay, Boots etc.).
We are hoping to continue running Rosie’s Room throughout the year (we also have to now pay for the installation of a new multipoint as the previous one exploded 😬). Any funds raised will help us do this, and more! Your support, as always, is very much appreciated!!

Donate to Furness Homeless Support Group with Give as you Live Donate - make one-off or monthly donation, or start fundraising by creating a Fundraising Page to support their vital work.
