📸 Free Photography workshops with Phil Green! ()

Join local photographer Phil Green to improve your camera skills and create images found in your everyday ‘plain sight’. Inspired by SIGNAL's current exhibition, Plain Sight, Phil will guide you through digital photography processes and give you time to explore your creativity.

The workshops will cover camera skills, finding ideas outdoors, digital enhancement and effects, and more. Together, you’ll produce a small publication and online exhibition!

What do driftwood, fluorescent nails and hurricane records have in common? 👀

They’re all part of Plain Sight, our current exhibition featuring work by artists Jack Brown, Felicity Hammond and Mishka Henner.

From driftwood collected on South Walney beach and adorned with luminous artificial nails, to digitally constructed blue urban landscapes and vinyl records featuring satellite hurricane and audio recordings of eyewitnesses and storm chasers, the exhibition explores our relationships with the environments we inhabit, from local landscapes to global realities.

We're open today, 10am–4pm, and entry is free. Come and take a look!

✨ Join us tomorrow (SATURDAY) at SIGNAL for an evening of poetry and photography! ✨

Poet Mark Ward will be joining photographer Tessa Bunney for a special event exploring What the Sea Decides to Give You, Tessa’s recent photography project working with the fishing community of Morecambe Bay, which featured a new poetry commission by Mark.

Our latest exhibition is open to the public again, bringing together work by SIGNAL Associate artists and Artist Development Lab mentors, Jack Brown, Felicity Hammond & Mishka Henner.

Exploring our relationships with the environment, landscape and protest, Plain Sight brings together photography, film and moving image from artists working across the North West and beyond.

✨What the Sea Decides to Give You- SIGNAL invites you to an evening with the artists ✨

An opportunity to join photographer Tessa Bunney and poet Mark Ward for a special event at SIGNAL. Following Tessa’s recent exhibition at the Dock Museum, What the Sea Decides to Give You, which featured a new verse commission by Mark Ward.

Tessa will give a talk about her recent project and her work with the fishing community of Morecambe Bay. Mark will read the new commissioned poems and work from his collections.

Huge thanks to everyone who came along to our exhibition launch last night! ❤️

We had a lovely evening celebrating Plain Sight, our new exhibition featuring work by SIGNAL Associate artists and Artist Development Lab mentors Jack Brown, Felicity Hammond and Mishka Henner.

It was also a chance to celebrate receiving a Freelands Award 2026 from Freelands Foundation for our 2025 Artist Development Lab. We were also delighted to welcome the filmmakers who joined us to capture footage for a special film being made to celebrate all the winners.

Plain Sight is open tomorrow (Saturday 26 September), 10am–4pm, for a special preview.

SIGNAL and BarrowFull are teaming up to deliver a FREE Film & Screen Saturday Club for young people aged 13–16yrs, as part of the National Saturday Club National Saturday Club

Our friendly team of professional filmmakers and artists will help you explore new ways to create and express yourself . You’ll develop skills in filming, editing, animation, set building, sound, visual effects, photography, digital image-making and more! Along the way you’ll experiment, work in teams and make friends as you create your own films and artwork.
