Team Barrow has awarded £2.8m to support 12 brilliant local voluntary and community organisations - all through the newly renamed Sue Johnson Impact Fund, honouring Sue’s incredible legacy with Drop Zone Youth Crew.

Over the next four years, this funding will help strengthen much‑loved groups including Women's Community Matters, Age UK South Cumbria, Mind in Furness, Citizens Advice Barrow, Carer Support Furness and more.

Alongside this, there’s also £400,000 for the People Helping People Fund, bringing residents together through community projects and £100,000 for Barrow Resolve CIC, to continue tackling poverty and social exclusion.

This investment is part of Team Barrow’s £5m Social Impact Fund, helping local groups create long‑term, positive change for our town.

As an organisation, we are so proud to have been part of something very special for our community.

Over the past few years, the Furness For You project has brought together charities, organisations and volunteers from across Furness to help reduce social isolation, encourage volunteering, and connect people with support in their community.

Together, this partnership has helped build stronger connections across Furness and supported many people to feel less isolated and more involved in their community.

For BDDA, this partnership journey began in October 2023, and it has been a real pleasure working alongside so many fantastic organisations and seeing the positive difference the project has made for local people.

As the current funding period comes to an end, the Furness For You project will be finishing at the end of March.

To celebrate everything that has been achieved together, there will be an End of Project Celebration – Disco & Karaoke at the Furness For You Connect Hub on Friday 13th March, 1 pm–3 pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and celebrate the amazing partnerships built through the project.

Because of this event, our usual Friday afternoon social activities at BDDA will not be running that day, as we will be attending the celebration in support.

While the project itself is coming to an end, the Furness For You website will continue as an online community hub, helping people across Furness find local support, activities and volunteering opportunities.

BDDA’s social activities will continue from April, and we look forward to continuing to welcome people along to our groups and supporting our community.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the Furness For You project and to all the organisations, volunteers and community members who have helped make such a positive impact across Furness.
