20 tickets remains !!

Due to a lack of ticket sales (even though we had a positive response when asking if people wanted it) we have changed a few things

We have reduced the price to £15 per person and families are also welcome.

However we must reach a minimum of 45 ticket sales for it to go ahead .

This is subsidised by the charity and we do not want to loose funds from canceling the trip.

🌺 NEW FOR THIS YEAR – WALNEY MEMORIAL GARDEN 🌺

As part of this year’s Remembrance display, we are creating a new Remembrance Garden in the area down the side of the library, adjacent to the car park.

❤️ A place to remember. A place to reflect. A place to pay our respects.

Members of our community are invited to submit the details of a loved one they have lost through conflict.

For each person submitted, we will create a memorial cross bearing their name, which will be placed within our Remembrance Garden as part of this year’s display.

The garden will provide a special area where families, friends and members of the community can visit, reflect and pay their respects to those who are no longer with us.

🌺 Would you like a loved one remembered in the garden?

Please complete the form below with their details:

Submit details for the Walney Memorial Garden

We will remember them. 🌺

Please share this post so that families across our community have the opportunity to have their loved ones remembered as part of this year’s display.

If you want, I can also turn this wording into a matching poster using the Walney Memorial Garden cross design above.

A few people have asked if there is pick ups on route. Unfortunately not. As this is organised by Walney community centre.the coach will leave from there. We have a car park where people can leave their cars for the day.

By picking up on route adds time to our journey and less time in Manchester .

On the way home we can arrange with the driver to stop off at different points

🌺 REMEMBRANCE POPPY WALK 2026 🌺

❤️ Coming Together to Remember ❤️

📅 Wednesday 11th November 2026
🕕 Meeting Time: 6:00pm
📍 Meeting Point: Vickerstown Park, Walney
🎟️ Free Community Event – Everyone Welcome!

Join us for a special evening of remembrance as our community comes together to honour and remember those who gave their lives for our freedom.

🌺 THE POPPY WALK

We will gather at Vickerstown Park at 6pm before being led by the Walney Wild Piper on a remembrance walk up Central Drive.

Along the way, we will take in the thousands of handmade poppies that have been lovingly created by our amazing community.

🌺 A MOMENT TO REMEMBER

When we arrive at Walney Community Centre, we will come together to observe a one-minute silence, taking time to reflect and remember those we have lost.

🎶 MUSIC & REFRESHMENTS – FROM 7PM

Following the walk, everyone is warmly invited inside Walney Community Centre for refreshments and an evening of nostalgic wartime music performed by the wonderful Becky Fishwick.

❤️ A COMMUNITY UNITED IN REMEMBRANCE

Our poppy display represents countless hours of dedication from local volunteers, families, young people and community groups.

This evening is an opportunity for us all to come together, reflect, remember and appreciate the incredible community spirit that makes Walney so special.

🌺 Everyone is welcome – young and old.

Please invite your family, friends and neighbours and help us make this a truly special evening of remembrance.

We Will Remember Them. ❤️

❤️ IMPORTANT UPDATE – WALNEY FOODSHARE ❤️

Changes to our £1 Food Bags & An Appeal for Support

For the past two years, Cumberland Building Society has generously supported our Foodshare service by subsidising the cost of our £1 food bags.

Unfortunately, this funding has now come to an end.

As a small charity, we simply cannot afford to cover these additional costs ourselves. However, we are determined to do everything we can to keep this much-needed service running for our community.

From Thursday 29th October, our food bags will increase from £1 to £2.

To keep the service running, we need to raise a minimum of £55 every week to cover the costs.

Even with the price increase, we cannot guarantee that we will raise enough money. If the service continues to operate at a loss, we may sadly have no choice but to withdraw it.

We know how much people rely on these bags, especially with the continued pressures on household budgets. Increasing the price is not a decision we have taken lightly.

🙏 CAN YOU HELP US KEEP FOODSHARE GOING?

We are appealing to local businesses, organisations and individuals who may be able to help us protect this important community service.

❤️ Could your business sponsor a week’s Foodshare for £55?

❤️ Could you make a small regular donation towards the running costs?

❤️ Could your workplace, community group or organisation help us raise funds?

Even a contribution of £5 or £10 would make a difference.

£55 could help us keep this service running for another week.

If several local businesses or individuals came together to support us, we could give this service a much more secure future.

If you would like to help, please get in touch with Walney Community Centre.

Finally, we want to say a massive THANK YOU to Cumberland Building Society for their generosity over the past two years. Their support has helped us provide affordable food to local people when they needed it most.

We really don’t want to lose this service, but we cannot continue to subsidise it without financial support.

Please share this post and help us keep Walney Foodshare going. ❤️
