In memory of the bombing raids over the town, particularly the time of the Barrow Blitz, and all those who lost their lives, or were injured; and those who worked tirelessly, and bravely fought, to help save this country.

In 1941, Barrow was still reeling from the German bombing raids on 14–16 April, before a second and more intense wave of attacks began on this day, 3rd May, which lasted until the 10th of May: the time known as the Barrow Blitz.

Targeting the shipyard, the steelworks and the railways, the N***s killed 95 people across the town in the blitz and other bombing raids, and damaged over 11,000 homes; 618 houses were destroyed outright, with others demolished as unsafe, because of the bombings.

These images, one from the Sankey Photography Archive, the other from the Evening Mail, show the impact of the bomb that hit the railway station. They are just two powerful photographs that captured of the town before the bombings, and their aftermath.
