We’re looking for a lovely new person to join our small, friendly team at Devon Antenatal Family Centre CIC!

As a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), we’re passionate about supporting local families and creating a welcoming space where parents and children can come together, make connections and access support.

This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a friendly, community-focused organisation where your work genuinely makes a difference.

📍 Barnstaple
🕘 Mondays & Fridays, 9.30am–3.30pm
⏰ 12 hours per week

The role involves helping to run our play café and shop, welcoming families, preparing refreshments, serving customers and organising donations.

We’re looking for someone who:

💜 Has excellent customer service skills (essential!)

🩵 Has previous experience in either a café or retail environment.

🧡 Is friendly, reliable, organised and happy to use their own initiative.

❤️ Enjoys working with people and supporting families.

Previous experience working with families would be an advantage, but isn’t essential.

We’re a small, supportive team who genuinely enjoy what we do, and we’d love to welcome someone who shares our enthusiasm!

North Devon’s maternity crisis was back in the national headlines yesterday.

Speaking to BBC National News, I highlighted some of the very real consequences families have experienced since the suspension of maternity services at North Devon District Hospital.

With renewed national discussion about the future of smaller maternity units, it’s vital that the experiences of rural families aren’t overlooked.

Safe maternity care must also be accessible maternity care.

Nobody is advocating for unsafe staffing. What we’re asking for is a sustainable, properly resourced maternity service that North Devon families can rely on.

The future of rural maternity care matters, and these voices deserve to be heard.

Another routine, unannounced food hygiene inspection, another 5-stars!

That’s three consecutive top ratings for Devon Antenatal Family Centre, and we’re pretty proud of that!

A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes to keep our standards high, especially when welcoming babies, young children and their families through our doors every day.

Following Monday’s maternity services readiness assessment, uncertainty continues for expectant families across North Devon.

While there has been encouraging progress with recruitment, there is still work to be done before maternity services can safely resume.

I spoke to BBC News about the wider impact of the ongoing closures and the importance of understanding the full consequences for women and their families.

It’s vital that their experiences continue to be heard and that we look beyond the headline figures to understand the true impact of the closures.

North Devon’s maternity situation has now reached international news.

German broadcaster RTL recently visited Devon Antenatal Family Centre CIC to film one of our antenatal classes and speak directly with expectant parents about the ongoing uncertainty surrounding maternity services in North Devon.

With another announcement expected tomorrow, it’s important that the experiences and concerns of local families continue to be heard.

We’ll continue supporting families and making sure their voices are heard.

Our Community Pantry is full to bursting! 🥖

You’ll find it by the door of Devon Antenatal Family Centre on Cross Street, Barnstaple, and it’s completely FREE for everyone to access.

Pop in for bread, cakes, tins, teabags and whatever else we have available. The whole idea is simple: good food shouldn’t go to waste, so please come and help us use it!

Our Little Essentials Corner is packed too, with clothes, nappies, personal hygiene supplies, baby equipment and lots more, all completely FREE.

Everything is available to everyone, so just pop in, have a look and take whatever you can make use of. 🌈
